We Care Society

Farmers who followed traditional Indian Agriculturepractices and other sustainable crop managementmethods have been living happy and leading value basedlife. Recognizing this, We Care Society conveys a clearmessage that we need to do business on planet Earthdifferently, and to adopt a more sophisticated approach. And, Organic agriculture represents one of the morepromising options for implementing such an approach.Current trade in organic food, drinks and cotton amountsto US$ 60 billion a year.Organic agricultural productionhas been shown to have a positive effect on reducinggreenhouse gas emissions, improving soil fertility andbiodiversity, and contributing to water conservation.

Organic agriculture also offers an opportunity forenvironmental protection. Organic agricultural productionhas been shown to have a positive effect on reducinggreenhouse gas emissions, improving soil fertility andbiodiversity, and contributing to water conservation. Byeschewing the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, organic agriculture has proven to be 20 to 56 per centmore efficient in terms of energy use and 64 per cent moreefficient in terms of CO2 emissions than the chemical-intensive industrial farming model.

Having said this,WCS felt that there is also a need toraise awareness among policymakers and in the privatesector about the economic, environmental and socialdevelopment opportunities offered by organic agricultureand how they can be exploited with the support ofeconomic and policy instruments and, associated withPRATHISTA INDUSTRIES LIMITED, to support the causesof farmers to improve the productivity and reduce thecost of production.

We request policymakers and the private sector to lookinto the unprecedented trade promotion, environmentalprotection and poverty reduction opportunities presentedby the rapidly growing markets for organic products. TheWe Care Society-Prathista Industries Limited CapacityBuilding Task Force on Organic Farming stands ready toassist you in making the most of them. Having said this,WCS felt that there is also a need to raise awarenessamong policymakers and in the private sector about theeconomic, environmental and social developmentopportunities offered by organic agriculture and how theycan be exploited with the support of economic and policyinstruments and, associated with PRATHISTAINDUSTRIES LIMITED, to support the causes of farmersto improve the productivity and reduce the cost ofproduction.

Organic agriculture has rapidly developed world-wideduring the last few years. Organic, sustainableagriculture is a realistic and necessary alternative tothose practices.

I am sure that We Care Society ’s initiatives onsustainable farming using innovations coupled with thePRATHISTA’ s commitment to deliver quality farm inputswill make a difference in the coming days.

The efforts are evidenced in the product efficacy fieldtrial reports and the endorsements on the effectivenessof PRATHISTA organic agricultural products from variousquarters.

In the coming years, I strongly believe that the effortsby WCS-PIL will continue in the State of Karnataka usingthe networked NGOs to benefit the farming communityand I wish all success in their endeavors.
