Trade Union of Education in FinlandOAJ

• Over 120 000 members from early childhood education to university teaching

• Teacher students and veteran teachers are included

• Breakdown of the OAJ members by gender: women 74 %, men 26 %

• Over 95 % of the Finnish teachers are trade union members

- Promoting, supporting and employing sustainable development for the internal activities of the organization - The OAJ office defines, designs and carries out the action plans- The impact is mainly internal

• Education politics- Promoting and empowering the sustainable deployment issues through the national education policies, improving the working conditions of teachers - The OAJ office and the trustee boards of the organization design and implement the activities- The impact is mainly external (Education administration, providers of education)

• Sustainability support for teachers- Promoting and supporting sustainable development activities in schools and kindergartens- The OAJ office and the local OAJ associations design and carry out the activities- The impact is mainly external (teachers, schools and kindergartens) 8

• Implementation approaches- Proactive cooperation with the education administration and the education providers- Proactive cooperation with the local administrators and the local OAJ associations

Sustainability support for teachers

• Objectivities- Aid, information and training courses for transforming schools to be socially, culturally and ecologically sustainable- Aid, information and training courses for improving the occupational wellbeing and health of teachers

• Starting activities- Work shops and seminars with members of the local associations in order to define the local needs and expectations - Close and proactive cooperation between the OAJ office and the local OAJ associations.

Vision of the program outcomes

The activities of the trade union are based on the principles of the sustainabledevelopment. The trade union promotes and supports sustainabledevelopment through the education politics and supports teachers with theRealization of sustainable development at schools and in education.

• Organization activitiesThe ecological foot print of the organization is at a sustainable level and the organization is a socially strong, healthy and innovative society.

• Education politicsSchools and kindergartens have opportunities, grounds and desire to be and act as socially, culturally and ecologically sustainable societies.

• Sustainability support for teachersTeachers have support, means and tools for developing their work and work places to be socially, culturally and ecologically sustainable
