INTER-COUNTY EVENTS
CAU Inter-County Cross Country, Cofton Park Birmingham, 7 March 2015
SENIOR MEN (12,000m) - TEAM: 4th. Individuals: 4th Jonny Hay (AFD) 34:42; 13thAndy Maud (Clap C); 29th Paskar Owor (Belg) 36:16; 46th Kevin Quinn (SLH) 36:57;65th Chris Busaileh (HHH) 37:27; 82nd Gilbert Grundy (G&G) 37:54; 83rd JohnSanderson (G&G) 37:54.
Fifteen runners out of the first twenty in the County Race indicated their wish to run ifselected for the Inter-Counties. Sadly Ralph Street who was third would be in Sweden! Elevenof those were entered plus Jonny Hay, Ian Bailey, Luke Caldwell & Andy Maud - all withperformances to their credit. Later, Bailey & Caldwell had to withdraw due to ill health.
On the day the team were ready to go and show their paces. Sadly Joshua Grace (unwell)and Henry Pearce (losing a shoe) had to withdraw - Two potential scorers! This did notdistract from a great race unfolding with Jonny & Andy to the fore with good backup fromPaskar Owor & Kevin Quinn. Every effort was made in this fast field to consolidate behindJonny & Andy working hard, with Jonny just missing third place, but one up on last year.Great credit to the team in achieving fourth place. WELL RUN on a fine effort.
Mick Firth - Team Manager.
U20 MEN (8000m) - TEAM: 3rd. Individuals: 6th Jack Rowe (AFD) 23:30; 14th Gus Cockle(AFD) 23:55; 21st George Gathercole (AFD) 24:23; 35th Daniel Wallis (G&G) 24:55; 85thCassian Hyde (HW) 26:08; 89th Alistair Masson (DMV) 26:16; 129th James Harvey (G&G)27:32.
From the County Championship 4 of the the first 16 were not eligible to run in the Under-20Age Group used for the Inter-Counties and 2 were not available. The remaining 10 allindicated their wish to run if selected. Steve Payne found he would be available if needed andTom Holden was entered on the strength of his background and assurances of his fitness forthe Inter-Counties from his coach.
The race, on a fine, warm & appropriate day for such an event proved to be fast &competitive. Jack Rowe in true style was, as last year, up amongst the leaders with GusCockle, committed, not far behind. Also running strongly were our third & fourth counters.Sadly, Tom Holden, suffering with severe stitch, and to withdraw. All were being urged torise to the occasion for a Podium Position. This they did to finish a fine, creditable thirdteam. WELL DONE!
Mick Firth, Team Manager.
