Step #1: Clip the Hair

Activity:1. Get a partner, a pair of clippers with a #40 or #50 blade and

tape2. Identify your surgical site3. Practice laying the clipper blade flat against the skin and

clipping against the lay of the hair4. Now pretend to vacuum up the clipped hair

Step #2 Scrub the Surgical Site

With your partner:

Obtain a: • Page protector• White board marker• Scrub• Alcohol spray bottle.

Now Scrub:

1. Outline your surgical site with the whiteboard marker- your incision site is already on your sheet

2. Look at your watch- you need 5 minutes contact time with the scrub on the skin

3. Scrub your site in a bulls eye manner, never going from the outside back into the middle, repeating a minimum of 3 times.

4. If the scrub comes off clean on the 3rd scrub, you are done but need to be sure you wait 5 minutes before rinsing

5. Rinse the site with the alcohol spray bottle
