Equipped with Canon optical and image-processing Technologies, RA-532H has been developed to allow humans to See Impossible, by visualizing impossibly small light movements as light from varying angles reflects over complex surface geometry.
The light movements are quantified in the form of BRDF, representing the direction and quantity of reflected light that enters RA-532H detector. Canon has achieved the challenge of displaying the results of 2-D BRDF in a portable manner, as color spectrum results are instantly displayed on a monitor depending on the returning angles of reflected light.
One shot analysis of all 4 surface conditions below can be done in a matter of 4 seconds for 3 different lighting angles of 20, 60, and 85 degrees.

RA-532H is the first portable Surface Reflectance Analyzer in the industry, allowing you to instantly and comprehensively evaluate the surface conditions of objects. It offers a wide range of measurement methods including standard measurements of Gloss, Haze, Image Clarity (IC), and Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function (BRDF). Additionally, Canon’s proprietary Scattering Index represents the diffusion of BRDF, which overcomes shortfalls of both IC and Distinctiveness of Image (DOI) when evaluating matte, textured and “orange peel” surfaces.

RA-532H outputs not only 1-D and 2-D BRDF graphs but is also capable of quantifying how the specular components of BRDF are scattered using Scattering Index.
This one-of-a-kind index can measure a wide range of object conditions from specular surfaces to diffused surfaces which IC and DOI fail to evaluate.
The measurements are done simultaneously in two lighting angles of 20 and 60 degrees, representing C20 and C60 respectively.
Scattering Index is versatile to measure from mirror surfaces to diffused matte surfaces. With a combination of Gloss and Haze indices as well as lighting angles, it is possible to reveal unknown surface conditions.
Specular Components
of BRDF
Scattering Index can measure a much wider range of material surfaces beyond 100 through 1000 where matte paper, textured exterior, and matte paint are categorized. Meanwhile, IC and DOI can only measure the range of 1 through 100.
The built-in camera allows you to accurately and freely focus and measure your desired area for 3 different lighting angles of 20, 60, and 85 degrees.
