The EBP - A brief introduction

Local Authority appointed provider of Work Experience Services to Schools within Lincolnshire and Rutland

~ 10,500 students each year on work placement~ 14,000 employers ~ Multi-agency work with Children’s Safeguarding Board

In addition, we support employer engagement activity for the benefit of schools, contributing to the work-related learning and employability activities offered to students.

Public Sector Annual Priority

Annual Priority:“To support the promotion of the sector as an employer of choice for young people”

Impact Measurement:“Maintain the number of Public Sector Organisations offering Work Experience and add an additional four before March ’11”

Methodology:EBP approached by Compact Group – May 2010• Review of existing Public Sector activity• During 2009/10 – 922 work experience opportunities provided• Work already in progress with some Public Sector Organisations • Incorporation of Compact targets into existing EBP activity

Work Experience Process:

• Work Experience requires high levels of resource to administer effectively

• Difficult to manage and coordinate across multiple sites

• Difficult to police (adherence to organisational policies and procedures)

• Difficulty in dissemination of key information due to volume of schools, colleges, different contacts and varying methods of approach

• Places the employer in control – single route for communication

• Centralised planning of engagement offers to all schools and colleges

Scope:• Four individual sites• In excess of 7,000 staff members• Over 200 different departments/wards/clinics

Prior to Partnership Activity:• Time/resource intensive - Duplication of process within each area• Lack of transparency in placement offers • Risk of placements taking place outside of company policy• Difficult to quantify actual activity taking place

Phase 1 – Lincoln County Hospital : Completed• Listing of approved placement opportunities agreed

• Details disseminated to all schools via EBP “all:together” on-line system

• EBP risk assessments covering all approved placements scheduled and performed annually to remove the need and inconvenience to employer throughout the year

• Trust wide application process and documentation defined

• Paperwork and process distributed to schools via EBP,“all:together” and employer website

Phase 1 – Lincoln County Hospital : Completed• Individual application approval retained by individual

department

• Streamlined process now allows reporting and management of activity to be undertaken by one member of staff in addition to their own day to day duties

• EBP on-line system used to inform schools/colleges of any changes
