SUPPORTING DOCUMENT II Information Note on the preparation of a UN System-Wide Strategy on Environment Prepared by UNEP In line with paragraph 88 of the Rio+20 outcome document, the Future We Want, and in follow up of Resolution 11 of the First United Nations Environment Assembly of UNEP (UNEA, 23-27 June 2014), the Environment Management Group has been invited to contribute to the preparation of a UN System-Wide Strategy on the Environment. The 20 th meeting of the Senior Officials is invited to discuss this issue to identify a possible contribution and engagement of the UN system agencies to the development of the Strategy. This Information Note, compiled by the EMG Secretariat to serve as a basis for the discussion, consists of the following two parts: a) A Background Note on the process of developing a United Nations System-Wide Strategy on the Environment prepared by UNEP to inform the first UNEA of the plan to prepare a the System-Wide Strategy, as well as its scope and objectives, as requested by Member States during the first open-ended meetings of the UNEP Committee of Permanent Representatives held in March and May 2014. b) A draft Outline of the United Nations System-Wide Strategy on the Environment prepared by UNEP, suggesting the key elements of the Strategy for further consideration and comments of the EMG members.
