Our Members The NAM has more than 2,000 members elected by their peers inrecognition of professional achievement and commitment to volunteerservice in advancing the mission of the National Academies. The NAMelects 70 U.S. members and 10 international members annually. Forthose at the top of their field, NAM membership reflects the height ofprofessional accomplishment and dedication to serving others.

Our Programs

We Are: An independent, evidence-basedscientific advisor. We harness thetalents and expertise of accomplished,thoughtful volunteers and undertakemeticulous processes to avoid andbalance bias. Our foundational goal is tobe the most reliable source for crediblescientific and policy advice on mattersconcerning human health. A national academy with global scope.The NAM includes members from acrossthe globe and partners withorganizations worldwide to addresschallenges that affect us all. Committed to catalyzing action andachieving impact. We identify andgenerate momentum around criticalissues in health; marshal diverseexpertise to build evidence-basedsolutions; inspire action throughcollaboration and public engagement;and foster the next generation of leadersand innovators. Collaborative and interdisciplinary. Inpartnership with the National Academyof Sciences, the National Academy ofEngineering, and other stakeholders, theNAM draws on expertise acrossdisciplines and domains to advancescience, medicine, technology, andhealth. An honorific society for exceptionalleaders elected by their peers. Througha commitment to volunteer service, NAMmembers help guide the work andadvance the mission of the NAM and theNational Academies.
