Helps teens and women engaging in high-risk activities understand the risks and transition to safe choices and healthy lives.

• Last year, AFG provided 893 hours of street outreach to girls and women resulting in 2,310 total contacts. During these contacts, referrals were given out to homeless shelters (including AFG), substance addiction treatment programs, and other AFG services for further support.

• Last year, 78% (41 out of 53) of the young women in AFG’s Peer Education Program reduced their risk behaviors, including drug use, gang involvement, school issues, running away, and pregnancy.

• Our Resource Center responded to 1,835 crisis phone calls. During these calls, individuals were connected to services at AFG, or they were referred to additional homeless shelters, after-school programs, and health care services.

A C A M PA IGN FOR A FG

In 2011, Alternatives For Girls officially launched “Securing the Future: A Campaign for AFG”. The Campaign’s purpose is to secure the future of Alternatives For Girls: to sustain and expand our successful, effective program-ming, to take care of our facility, to ensure our ability to continue to recruit and retain talented staff, and to manage our resources in a way which provides medium- and long-term stability and flexibility during challenging economic downturns.

Most importantly, we launched this campaign to secure the future of positive alternatives for girls, so that the girls and young women in our community, born into and growing up amidst circumstances which put them at risk, will have true alternative paths for their development and for the futures they dream of: educational opportunities, job develop-ment resources, college and career guidance, and strong skills and capacity for safe and positive relationships.

We are grateful for all gifts for the campaign that bring us closer to our $6.2 million goal. (Note: the campaign was a “comprehensive” one in its first phase, with all private gifts counting toward our goal; the second phase—calendar year 2014—sought more targeted support for specific funds that are part of our long-term planning, including a cash flow reserve, program sustainability fund, building and equipment reserve, and endowment). We are privileged to specially acknowledge the following individuals, foundations, and corporations whose early, steadfast, and generous gifts, including many multi-year commitments, have accelerated our journey to a secure future.

Special thanks to Union AdWorks and tophotographer Michelle Andonian for theirgenerous contributions in creating the 2014 Annual Report insert.
