On other occasions no doubt similar advantages wifl be taken, but one wonders if Wilson McComb was right in his suggestion that the Car Club should orgamse a large marquee at major events for Register and Centre to present themselves. BEAULIEU 1984 The second officialTwin Cam Group attendance of the year proved to have exactly the opposite in weather to that of the first, the May Silverstone meeting. There must have been a cloud in the sky somewhere, I never noticedit, the whole day proved a shining example of a British summer's day and this time the Group marquee provided refuge form the sun.

On theforecourt, as itwere sixmembers cars on display proved an attractive presentation and a high proportion of those attending the meeting called upon us at sometime during the day. The cars were thoseof JohnTofts, Simon Parsons, Ian Evans, Neil Cumngham, John McAdam and my own. On the end of the line we had the TVR of Tony Lintern, this may seem strange to you until told that it was powered by a MGA Twin Cam enging, The whole car was in excellent condition and attracted many admirers. CAR PURCHASE Recently I became involved with the purchase of a Twin Cam and thought that some of the points learnt would be best written down for the benefit of Home members and Overseas members

1, An offer, by the buyer to the seller-

    2. Acceptance of that offer, by the seller

    3 A Consideration, usually in the fmm'of a

monetary deposit paid by the buyer to theseller. Other side issues maybe agreed by the two parties but they are the basic requirements. Displayed prices can be merely 'an invitation to treat', that is attract a buyer, because until the three points above are established no sale is enforceable. Price on application, P.O.A., may be seen from the start as an open offer, the buyer may later find himself bidding against others in order to secure a purchase, that is if the seller is satisfied with any offer. I personnally do not understand why the seller does not want to advertise a price, unless he is too embarrassed to publicize the profit he is likely to make, or does redly intend to start an suctmn.

SPARES Peter Wood advises that he haslust takenreceipt of sets of Valve Springs

We wonder whether there is a demand for the rubber seal that fits into the ciioove on too of the

necessary to make the right product available. Please respond now, if you are in need.

The Fume Excluder is now readily available a d W would hope to satisfy orders quickly, but frankly there is little point of ordering in twos and threes so if your need is to be met please order promptly Price in Regalia list.

TRADING TIP Having laid PM707707 for the winter, I came across the nroblem of ~eleasina the clutch horn

the bonduig mst sheered To overcome the problem it is suggested that before laying up depress the clutch place a piece of wood between the slave cylinder and clutch operating arm ensurmg the drive plate is clear of both flvwheel and the driven date Careful selection of wood dimension will ensure both clearance and minimum of compression of the pressure plate springs

GROUP SALES Additional to the regular items listed later we are able to offer the foliowmg -

MGA b y Wilson McComb still at the onginal price of £ 95 P & P 75p (The bookis now sold at £ 95 but we have some old stock)

Big-end Bolts, three sets are available made from high quality material and proven in recently raced engines £1 per set.

REGISTER NOTES Only a couple of notifications this month, firstly the car YD1.2390 which was for sale by G.C. Goddard has found anewhome where its rebuild wdl be completed to a high standard, that is if the standard set in his MGA push-rod is to be repeated. Nick and his father, Bob Cox, have taken the car to Welwyn Garden City. Some details of the car not previously known to the Group are that it carries the Registration Number 44FT0, has the original engine 2074 fitted and was first registered 1st August 1959. Nick and Bob are keen to establish the history of the car so if any reader does recognise the Reg. No. and contacts us. it would be aonreciated. Just alona

On theother sideoftown~s the 'flying dentist' John Halton who had, up to this year campaigned YU1.1903 as a Twin Cam but this year converted to race push-rod power, he is our Competition Secretary and available to answer queries on 0204.691794. John also owns YM1.1092. Mike Pwce lives at the village of Feniscowles and runs ins roadster on a regular basis,

A long term member of the Group is Peter Shortland, although I thought I had seen the car YD1 2030 for sale earlier this year. Graham Geldeard had ownedYD1.2138 inHaleBms but we have nothing for four or five years of the car or owner.

Peter Crisp purchased YD1.700 in 1976 was very busy obtaining the passed history of the car when a couple of changes of address put him out of touch with us.

Moving up to the very attractive county of Cumbria to make mention of Simon Baker who owns a good looking Old English White coupe The last thing we heard was that piston had hole over the 1983 Silverstone week-end. We would hope that things are okay by now and that YM1.696 is back in service.

There are two natters which are attended by Group members. John Halton runs the 2nd Tuesday night at the Royal Arms, Tockholmes, e a r Darwen, and the 4th Thursday at the Horshoe, Stoneclough, Fainworth.
