SUPERNOVAE AND BLACK HOLES

Elena Martín Guillén

Page 2: Supernovae and black holes

It is a brilliant explosion in which a star blows itself. When the star is more than eight times as massive as the Sun. It can produce a neutron star or a black hole.

SUPERNOVAE

Page 3: Supernovae and black holes

They can shine so bright from weeks to months. They increase its luminosity and it can have a bigger magnitude than the rest of the whole galaxy, but then its shine decreases and it finally disappears

SUPERNOVAE

Its explosion causes the expulsion of its external layers via shockwaves.

The leftovers make dust and gas clouds, when those clouds reach other clouds they can form new solar nebulae, which make stellar systems after a time.

SUPERNOVAE

Page 5: Supernovae and black holes

They are dark voids in space from which nothing can escape. It can be form when a very massive star dies in a supernova explosion leaving behind a dense core so heavy that it can’t support its own weight. It collapses to a tiny point of enormous density with an immense gravitational pull.

BLACK HOLES

BLACK HOLES

Experts think that in most of the galaxies there are massive black holes.

The existence of black holes is supported by many astronomic investigations, specially by the x ray emission from binary stars and active galaxies.
