Caffeine is a very popular compound that is consumed daily by more than 100 million people worldwide. It occurs naturally in many foods and drinks, with the most common sources including coffee beans, tea leaves, and cocoa beans. Caffeine has the systematic name 3,7-dihydro-1,3,7- trimethyl-1H-purine-2,6-dione, with the chemical formula C8H10N4O2.
When used in moderation, this caffeine can be beneficial. The effects of caffeine are well-known; caffeine in low doses is a stimulant, allowing the drinker to increase concentration and reduce tiredness. However, too much can cause problems such as nervousness, anxiety and irregular heartbeats.
