hile talking to Don Benke about his Healey stale gas syn-drome, he mentioned that there are still members who have not renewed their membership... So, if you’re not sure about your

membership re-newel...please call Don and double check.

The following is a semi-repeat, but worth thinking about. While driving into El Cajon recently, my ta-chometer needle began moving erratically. Upon checking it out, I found out it was a loose connec-tion. This got me to thinking about Foreign Speedo and why we need to do everything we can to keep spe-cialists like these in business.Foreign Speedo has saved me several times. Years ago, when my speedometer jambed when the flex cable gave out, because the wheel bearing grease in the flex line dried out, and I didn’t know it. Of course the speedometer was as dry as the cable. And again, when a wire in my gas gauge separated.Foreign Speedo brought my speedometer into line when I changed my dif. gears from 3.93 to 3.54. They installed a tiny transmission after the trans-mission angle drive. They put my Healey on a dino and swapped gears until they corrected the gauge within 2 MPH...As I said, many, if not most of all the internal bits and pieces of our Lucas gauges are not available. . The guys at Foreign Speedo have collected the ob-scure parts to patch up Lucas gauges, among oth-ers. Foreign Speedo has the know-how to give our gauges the attention they need, but seldom get...

From The President

Well hello again.

It will be March, by the time you receive this Healey Hearsay. There are plenty of activities this month, so please look over the calendar and see what fits your schedule and take a glance at the meeting minutes to keep informed. Come join us. The weather is shaping up nicely for driving around San Diego County and whatever vehicle you choose to drive, we’re looking forward to getting together.

I enjoyed our great Super Bowl party with some wonderful food, seven chili’s for our cook off, ham, spaghetti, meat balls, potato salad, side dishes, great desserts and birthday cake for Terry’s birthday. We celebrated his big day, but glad we had a fire extinguisher for all those candles. I’ll never tell, Terry. It was a competitive super bowl and a fun place to get together, thanks to our hosts Don and Pat Benke! Thank you all for bringing treats to share and joining us. It was a great time. BTW, the chili cook off was a great success and there were three winners. Our editor Warren, Barbara Humphrey and I; guess mine was the hottest. We had an impromptu tech session to access Don’s car, checked that the floats and needle valves were ok, fuel delivery was working, spark plugs were getting spark, wires were tight etc… and after pumping out and looking at some fuel, expect replacing the fuel will get his car running again. We shall see. Good luck Don.

Lou will remind us what is going on in March through May and give us details at our next meeting, Wednesday March 11th at Mimi’s Cafe off Mira Mesa Blvd. I think you will enjoy the changes to Mimi’s menu and their food quality has really improved, but come for the camaraderie and meeting, good food is a bonus. A Cars and Coffee drive is scheduled on Saturday March 7th. At our meeting, let’s look over and discuss our future activities, so we can update the calendar with what you would like to do. All Aboard for the train ride Saturday March 21st to Campo. There may be a tech session in March, if it can be arranged.

Don has been working very hard contacting members, to keep their membership up to date so they’ll continue receiving the Healey Hearsay in 2020. Please send in your dues payment in case that was overlooked. The mailing list and roster will become final in March. We’re moving into the end of the first quarter and will not be forward-ing newsletters to members who haven’t renewed, so stay connected with us and have some fun!

We need a member volunteer to manage reproducing and mailing out hard copy newsletters to members not on line and to our vendors monthly. Please contact anyone of your board members if you are willing to volunteer to complete this important communication. Costs will be reimbursed for copying, postage and envelopes. Thank you, for your support and participation.

See you soon.Howard Stark

Members who have paid AHCA dues may be covered if we plan and host a future event, provide details and request approval. We may have insurance coverage once approval is provided.

Support for Club Events: We are receiving more member input on interests and want to continue increasing support for club events. We continue to need more input and volunteers.

The Widgery’s With Friends

Right after finishing and sending last month’s Healey Hear-say, I found these photos of the Widgery’s at home with the Club. I couldn’t resist not including them in this issue. Good times must be treasured, and always remembered...there are never enough of them... Above- Gisela Putzke, Loreen Wilhelmy and Barbara Widgery. Center- Jim Widgery, re-laxing on their patio with friends. Below- Jim, surrounded by friends, Loreen Wilhelmy, Annice Kitterer, Roland Wil-helmy, and Bob Kitterer...those were the days, my friends, we thought they’d never end...

Once again, Don and Patrica Benke stepped up and hosted the Super Bowl Party and Men’s Chili Cook-Off. Thanks Don and Patrica...Attendees included: Don & Pat Benke, Lou Galper & Deb-orah Durham, Terry Cowan & Lisa Mandell, Peter Roses from Australia, Rick & Allie Snover, Curt & Nancy Arndt, Udo & Gisela Putzke, Ed Neumeyer, Will & Sharon Rogers,

Bob & Barbara The Brownie Queen Humphreys, Howard Stark, Chuck Sharp, and myself. I think a good time was had by all...And once again, Saturday before the Super Bowl, I am rummaging around my spice cabinet for chili fixings. I had picked up ground chuck, several kinds of beans, garlic, tomatoes, and a sweet onion for the

chuck. And I picked up a Carroll Shel-by’s Original Texas Brand Chili Kit. How could I go wrong? Easy!...The finished chili crock pot was a dud. I didn’t like it. So I was sure no one else would. It’s now Saturday evening...and I was desperate...

Above Top- I asked the gang to act like they were hav-ing a good time... Above- Lou was in charge of the betting shop. No luck here. Center- Everyone is hyp-notized by the flat screen but Terry managed a wave. Right- Ed Neumeyer gave a smile from the corner.

...And Men’s Chili Cookoff

So, I added more garlic. Still nothing. ...I went out back and grabbed sever-al lemons off the tree, juiced them in. Added more cayenne pepper...and two table spoons of sugar and a little more salt. Finally, it began to come around. No one was more surprised than I to win best tasting chili...I think the sugar did the trick. Is that cheating? There were six chili pots, roast, spa-ghetti, desserts...did I mention Barba-ra Humphreys brownies?...and Terry’s Birthday cake to finish off the sweets... a great Super Bowl day...

Above Top- The after game event was Terry Cowan’s Birthday Bash. We were careful with the candles. Lisa is serving the Club a sugar high while we wished Terry happy birthday....Happy Birthday Terry...Note Barbara Humphreys brownies are almost gone. Below- Chili Contest Winners...Howard Stark’s chili was the hottest...IT WAS. Barbara Humphrey’s was the most unusual. Mine was the best tasting, proba-bly due to the sugar shot...

Barbara’s Brownies...

Other non-Healey British-built cars earn half points, but are not eligible to win the award.

All points received during the year by all members will be worth a discount towards the purchase of AHCSD regalia during the subsequent year. The total point leader at the end of the year will receive the coveted Car of the Year badge for display on their Healey for the following year.
