Palma Sailing AreaIn the Mediterranean, off the eastern coast of Spain, our cruising area encompasses

the four main Balearic Islands of Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera. This

wonderful destination holds so much more for yachtsmen than any mainland visitorcould ever imagine. From golden beaches and bays to lively harbours and high

rocky peaks, the Balearics possess their own hidden lifestyle, entertainment andcuisine, as varied and exciting as sailing among the islands themselves.

Our base on Mallorca is at Marina Naviera Balear, which is a smaller marina within

Palma Harbour, close to the old town. From here, you are perfectly situated to set

sail and explore some of the 330 miles of Mallorcas coastline, or head to one of theother Balearic Islands.

Mallorcas rugged west coast offers fascinating landscapes, with lofty pine-topped

mountains dropping steeply into the sea. The island has many surprisingly different

areas of natural beauty and enjoys a stable climate: pleasant temperatures in all

seasons, warm in the winter, not too hot in the summer. The landscape is veryvaried with mountains giving way to coastlines of tiny villages, sandy, and pebbly

beaches or orchards of orange, clementine, and lemon trees alongside long hillside

terraces of olives and sweet wine-producing grapes.

Mallorca has always been a centre of nautical activity largely due to its prime spot

in the Mediterranean and its close proximity to Spain, France, Italy, and the other

islands in the Balearic chain. Nowadays the island sports a lively yachting industryand is home many well equipped harbours along its entire coast.

For those looking for a bit more adventure and exploration, the nearby

Island andNational Park of Cabrera is a must visit stop off. Furtherafield lies the islands ofFormentera, with its palm-fringed sandybeaches and clear, turquoise waters, which is just a few milessouth of the renowned party island of Ibiza. For the more

relaxead sailors, just a half days sail fromCala Ratada onMallorca and the least populated of the main islands, also

    lies Menorca.

    Renaissance, Gothic and Baroque architecture.

Ston, on the mainland, is one of the most beautiful examples of a fortified town

youll ever see. This small historical stop is famous for its impressive defence wall

and many cultural monuments. The local restaurants serve delicious specialities

of oyster and other fresh seafood, while the beautiful olive tree-lined sandy beach

offers a perfect place for a relaxing afternoon.

Moor up and enjoy the peaceful surroundings at Mljet, tucked away from the hustle

and bustle of every day life. Hire a bike and venture up to the national park, known

as the most stunning in the Adriatic where you will find two deep lakes, one witha monastery on an island in the middle, accessible by a small boat which runs

regularly throughout each day.Further north, Korcula was once called the black island by the ancient Greeks

because of its dense forests, but it is known more today as Little Dubrovnik. Enjoy

restaurants, bars and shops, as well as some sight-seeing on the island where

    Marco Polo once lived.

Before heading back to base, stop off at the sheltered golden island of Sipan, the

largest of the Elafiti islands, offering an idyllic atmosphere. A short sail northwest

from our base, lies the beautiful island of Lopud, also part of the Elafiti Islands.
