SunGenie installation guide for the Honda EU3000is

Time required: 1.5 to 3.5 hours Tools required:

-Long #2 Philips Screwdriver - 10mm deep socket & ratchet - Hex Wrench (included) (greater than 6 inches in - Scissors - Small Screwdriver (included) Shaft length required) - Electrical Tape - Electrical Solder - Soldering iron - Pliers - Drill and 1/8” drill bit

Step 1: Remove front noise cover by removing the four 10mm nuts.

Step 2: Remove key switch ring-nut. Remove fuel valve knob by removing recessed screw with long phillips screwdriver

Step 3: Loosen control panel by removing the four 10mm bolts and gently pull out on panel.

Step 4: Remove ignition switch from panel and unplug the ignition switch harness.

Step 5: Unplug the wire harness from SunGenie and locate the solid red wire.

Step 6: Looking at the backside of the ignition switch locate the unused terminal marked number “6”. Solder the red wire from SunGenie to this terminal. Route wire under flexible metal band.

Step 7: Locate black wire from SunGenie. Attach eyelet wire connector to wire. Attach this wire to the (-) terminal of the generator’s battery.

Step 8: Mount SunGenie to top of battery and fasten with wire tie to negative battery cable.

Step 9: Mount antenna along side of generator being careful to keep antenna clear of sound cover.

Step 10: loop antenna wire through wire clip as shown. Then fasten with wire tie.

Step 11: Locate brown wire on SunGenie wire harness and black/white/brown wire on ignition switch harness (top-middle, see diagram).

Step 12: Using provided screwdriver, depress retainer clip on wire connector and remove from wire harness. Attach and/or solder the brown wire to this wire, then reconnect into harness.

Step 13: Attach and/or solder the red/white wire from SunGenie to the black/brown wire on the ignition switch harness and reconnect into harness.

Step 14: Attach and/or solder the white wire from SunGenie to the green/brown on the generator ignition switch harness. Reconnect into harness and confirm all wires are securely connected.

Step 15: Bundle wiring as shown with electrical tape and fasten the wire bundle to existing wire on backside of control using wire ties. Leave enough slack to route wire harness under control panel and reconnect wire harness to SunGenie.

Secure ignition switch to control panel, reinstall control panel and fuel valve.

Step 16: Disconnect 3-wire coupler on choke servo and route wire under control panel into engine compartment.

Step 17: Open side door of generator and remove air cleaner cover, and air filter. Remove the two 10mm nuts and one 10mm screw that hold the air box. Remove the air box from the unit.

Step 18: With Scissors, cut out template along lines provided. Hold template against back of air box for guide in drilling holes to mount choke servo. (Note: It is important that the servo will fit tightly against the left corner of space.

Step 19: Using the two tapered head screws, install the right angle mounts to the servo to attach servo to the air box. Very important that the servo butts up against the back and also to the left. Using the three pan head screws and washers, fasten the servo to the air box. The right angle mounts can swivel to accommodate the alignment of holes for the screws. Tight to corner as indicated by arrow.

Step 20: Reconnect servo coupler and install air box on to generator. Tighten nuts to check clearance between servo arm and carburetor insulator plate. If any contact, remove air box and repeat 19 but change the mounting position of the servo for more clearance.

Step 21: Remove the choke cable from choke arm, and loop the small servo cable through the cable slot in the choke actuator grabber then reinstall the choke cable over the small servo cable. (Note: Reinstall choke cable to original position with tapered end of spring fitted into recessed area of choke.)

Troubleshoot: If generator does not start with the remote, confirm problem is NOT the generator. Consult Owners manual if the generator will not start with normal starting procedure. UNIT CRANKS BUT DOES NOT START: The most common problem is improper choke operation by the servo. Looking at the choke servo, the servo and the choke arm should move when the start button is pressed on the remote. If not, there may be a disconnect in the three wire connection between the servo and the SunGenie OR mechanical interference of the choke arm. Confirm the SunGenie installation wiring has been done accurately by reviewing the installation steps above. The choke should close completely during remote start procedure. Assure there is no mechanical interference with the servo arm movement. If the choke does not close completely and there is no mechanical interference, a simple adjustment of the choke servo actuator arm is necessary. The actuator arm is fastened by a Phillips head screw onto a splined shaft which will allow for the easy repositioning of the arm on the shaft to accomplish a full-choke start. A discharged generator battery will also keep the remote from operating properly. Troubleshoot: The red lamp inside of the SunGenie unit should blink once when power is applied by turning ignition switch to ON. If not-then no power is reaching unit. Troubleshoot: Leaving the ignition key in the “on” position for 36 hours or more without use of the generator will discharge the battery and cause the servo to not fully choke when cranking. The key may remain “ON” continually if the generator is being used on a day to day basis for only an hour or more.

The Sun remote control transmitter allows you to start and stop your generator from the leisure of your living space and gives you the flexibility to locate your generator where it will be out of sight and out

of the way. The key switch must be “on” for remote control operation. Leaving the key “ON” for longer than 36 hours without operation of the generator may begin to discharge the battery. Large Blue Button Momentary Choke and Start Normal start button . Instructions: Press and release. (If generator is out of sight, assure a monitoring light is “on” near you to confirm the generator has started.) Smaller Middle Blue Button Extended Choke And Start Cold-start / dry-start button. Applies the choke longer while cranking. Instructions: Press and hold this button for only an additional moment or two. Red Button Engine stop button. Press this button to stop generator. (If generator is out of sight, assure the monitoring light referred to in “button 1” goes out to confirm generator has stopped.)

Warning: To avoid unplanned generator starting or discharging the battery, turn “off” key switch when the generator is not going to be used.
