Why Should I Join the Choir?
I recently read an article that stated “Join a choir, science shows it’ll make you feel better.”
Almighty God calls us to use the many gifts He has given us, and if we are going to please Him, we must respond to His call.
There are many different ministries in the Church, St. Paul tells us. Remember what Our Lord said about our talents. He was so pleased with the first 2 men who invested their talents and produced a hundredfold. However, with the man who refused invest his talents Christ was most displeased!
Of course, not everyone has the talent to sing, but most of us can sing. Oh, we may not sound like a star on Broadway, or at the Metropolitan Opera House, but we can sing the musical scale and remain on pitch.
So, we are looking to augment our Parish choir. We are looking for sing-ers to glorify and praise God and I know there are plenty of people that can sing right here in our own Parish. I HAVE HEARD THEM!
In addition to enhance our Sunday 11 am Mass, the choir helps to make our big Feasts even more beautiful; Christmas, Holy Week, Easter, vari-ous special celebrations like 40 Hours, etc.
It’s all up to you! Why not make a difference in your life?
In addition to pleasing God and helping our Congregation to sing, there are many other benefits.
Scientists tell us that music is awash with neurochemical rewards for working up the courage to sing, that “rush” or “singer’s high” comes in part as a surge of endorphins, which at the same time alleviates pain. Music lowers CORTISOL, a chemical that signals levels of stress. Music also, re-leases SEROTONIN, a neurotransmitter associated with feelings of euphoria and contentment.
One week at rehearsal one of our choir members told me “Father, every time when I come to re-hearsal I feel dead tired and I don’t think I’ll make it to 8:30 pm. But then something magical hap-pens and I feel revived…it happens every time.”
Studies have shown that singing in a choir releases OXYTOCIN, a chemical that manages anxiety and stress and enhances feelings of bonding and trust. Singing for God might be our most perfect drug, the ultimate mood regulator, lowering rates of anxiety, depression, and loneliness while at the same time amplifying happiness and joy with no discernable, unpleasant side effects.
In addition to all of those good effects of joining the choir you will be gaining great merit from God in Heaven because you DO IT FOR HIM AND HIS GREATEST HONOR AND GLORY.
Please, please join us for our first choir rehearsal with Dr. Michael Phelps in Church on Tuesday, September 3rd at 6:30 PM.
May God reward you,
Fr. Anthony

THE LORD’S REAL PRESENCE
W e are fortunate enough to worship in a Church in which the Body of Christ is reserved. It is right to acknowledge the Lord’s Real Presence with a brief act of worship on entering
or leaving the Church and every time passing by the Sanctuary. Normally, a genuflection in the direction of the place of Reservation is enough. One who is physically unable to genuflect may substitute a profound bow at the waist.
If You CANNOT Be on Time, Then Be EARLY.
Making Time For Prayer Strengthens Our Connection with God
P lease make every effort to arrive on time for the start of Holy Mass, which begins with
the Sign of the Cross and ends with the dismissal, “Go in Peace.” It is the Lord we in-
sult when we do not give Him our time. He is never too busy to be with us!

TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME WEEKEND READINGS
FIRST READING A READING FROM THE BOOK OF THE PROPHET SIRACH (3:17-18, 20, 28-29)
M y child, conduct your affairs with humility, and you will be loved more than a giver of
gifts. Humble yourself the more, the greater you are, and you will find favor with God.
What is too sublime for you, seek not, into things beyond your strength search not. The mind of a
sage appreciates proverbs, and an attentive ear is the joy of the wise. Water quenches a flaming fire,
and alms atone for sins. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God
RESPONSORIAL PSALM:
R. God, in your goodness, you have made a home for the poor
The just rejoice and exult before God; they are glad and rejoice. Sing to God, chant praise to his name; whose name is the LORD. R. God, in your goodness, you have made a home for the poor
The father of orphans and the defender of widows is God in his holy dwelling. God gives a home to the forsaken; he leads forth prisoners to prosperity.
R. God, in your goodness, you have made a home for the poor
A bountiful rain you showered down, O God, upon your inheritance; you restored the land when it languished; your flock settled in it;
in your goodness, O God, you provided it for the needy. R. God, in your goodness, you have made a home for the poor
SECOND READING
A READING FROM THE LETTER OF ST. PAUL TO THE HEBREWS (12: 18-19, 22-24a)
B rothers and sisters: You have not approached that which could be touched and a blazing fire
and gloomy darkness and storm and a trumpet blast and a voice speaking words such that
those who heard begged that no message be further addressed to them. No, you have approached
Mount Zion and the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and countless angels in festal
gathering, and the assembly of the firstborn enrolled in heaven, and God the judge of all, and the
spirits of the just made perfect, and Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and the sprinkled blood
that speaks more eloquently than that of Abel. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God
R. Alleluia, alleluia. Take my yoke upon you, says the Lord, and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
A warm welcome is extended to all who have come to the Faith Com-
munity of St. Gianna to join us in worship and praise of Almighty
God. We are grateful to our faithful Parishioners who come every weekend
and we welcome all of our neighbors and guests who visit us occasionally.

GOSPEL READING A READING FROM THE HOLY GOSPEL ACCORDING TO LUKE (14: 1, 7-14)
On a sabbath Jesus went to dine at the home of one of the leading Pharisees, and the people there
were observing him carefully. He told a parable to those who had been invited, noticing how they
were choosing the places of honor at the table. "When you are invited by someone to a wedding
banquet, do not recline at table in the place of honor. A more distinguished guest than you may
have been invited by him, and the host who invited both of you may approach you and say, 'Give
your place to this man,' and then you would proceed with embarrassment to take the lowest place.
Rather, when you are invited, go and take the lowest place so that when the host comes to you he
may say, 'My friend, move up to a higher position.' Then you will enjoy the esteem of your compan-
ions at the table. For every one who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles him-
self will be exalted." Then he said to the host who invited him, "When you hold a lunch or a dinner,
do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors, in case they
may invite you back and you have repayment. Rather, when you hold a banquet, invite the poor,
the crippled, the lame, the blind; blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you.
For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."
The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

An engineer dies and reports to the Pearly Gates. Saint Peter checks his dossier and not seeing his name there, accidentally sends him to Hell. It doesn't take long before the engineer becomes ra-ther dissatisfied with the level of comfort in Hell. He soon begins to design and build improvements. Shortly thereafter, Hell has air conditioning, flush toilets and escalators. Needless to say, the engineer is a pretty popular guy. One day, God calls Satan and says: "So, how are things in Hell?" Satan re-plies: "Hey, things are going great. We've got air conditioning, flush toilets, and escalators. And there's no telling what this engineer is going to come up with next." "What!" God exclaims: "You've got an engineer? That's a mistake - he should never have been sent to Hell. Send him to me." "Not a chance," Satan replies: "I like having an engineer on the staff, and I'm keeping him!" God insists: "Send him back or I'll sue." Satan laughs uproariously and answers: "Yeah, right. And where are you going to get a lawyer?

y si vamos a complacerlo, debemos responder a Su llamada. ¡Los he escuchado!

Gloria a Ti Señor.
