MUMBAI, Oct 31: Hopeful that the age of slow- down will end soon for the real estate business, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today said the sector must survive on market economy and subsidies should not be the “essence of survival”. He also asked the sector to submit their taxation related sug- gestions to the recently appointed panel on tax issues and said the Government would seriously look into the final recommendations of the committee. Speaking at a housing market conference here attended by real estate players and housing finance firms, Jaitley said the sector will be the next big mover as far as the Indian economy was concerned. He said that easier availability of land for housing was very important while interest rates have already come down to bring down the cost of funding. “The real estate should survive on market economy (and) subsi- dies should not be essence of sur- vival for the industry,” Jaitley said. He said that inflation has been brought under control and Reserve Bank has already cut rates four times this year, which was a posi- tive move for the sector and “hopefully those moves are here to stay”. “Age of slowdown for realty sector should now come to an end,” he said. On macro issues, the Finance Minister said the global environ- ment has not been helpful and the impact was visible in exports slowing down in India. “The biggest strength of India and the silver lining is its resilience... Our systematic fire- walls have to be such that the abil- ity to resist the global volatility are strengthened,” he said. “We are unquestionably one of the fastest, if not the fastest grow- ing major economies... On rev- enue collection, the indications look more on the optimistic side,” Jaitley said. The Minister further said that the savings from low global com- modity prices were being used in irrigation and infrastructure while improving the health of power sector was also one of the most important tasks. “After roads and highways, very soon we will be looking into the issues of the power sector,” Jaitley said. Expecting inflation to remain under control, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today said he is hope- ful that the downward move in interest rates will stay. He said the Reserve Bank has lowered the rates on four occa- sions this year, which was a posi- tive step for the real estate sector that was earlier adversely impact- ed by the hardening of rates. The RBI has cumulatively lowered its policy rate by 1.25 per cent so far in 2015, including by 25 basis points thrice and a better- than-expected 50 basis points in the last monetary policy review. “Interest rate hardening had impacted this (real estate) sector adversely and it was a pre-requi- site that we kept inflation under control for a sustained period of time. MUMBAI, Oct 31:
Hopeful that the age of slow-down will end soon for the realestate business, Finance MinisterArun Jaitley today said the sectormust survive on market economyand subsidies should not be the“essence of survival”.
He also asked the sector tosubmit their taxation related sug-gestions to the recently appointedpanel on tax issues and said theGovernment would seriously lookinto the final recommendations ofthe committee.
Speaking at a housing marketconference here attended by realestate players and housing financefirms, Jaitley said the sector willbe the next big mover as far as theIndian economy was concerned.
He said that easier availabilityof land for housing was veryimportant while interest rates havealready come down to bring downthe cost of funding.
“The real estate should surviveon market economy (and) subsi-dies should not be essence of sur-vival for the industry,” Jaitley said.
He said that inflation has beenbrought under control and ReserveBank has already cut rates fourtimes this year, which was a posi-tive move for the sector and“hopefully those moves are here tostay”.
“Age of slowdown for realtysector should now come to anend,” he said.
On macro issues, the FinanceMinister said the global environ-ment has not been helpful and theimpact was visible in exportsslowing down in India.
“The biggest strength of Indiaand the silver lining is itsresilience... Our systematic fire-walls have to be such that the abil-ity to resist the global volatility arestrengthened,” he said.
“We are unquestionably one ofthe fastest, if not the fastest grow-ing major economies... On rev-enue collection, the indicationslook more on the optimistic side,”Jaitley said.
The Minister further said thatthe savings from low global com-modity prices were being used inirrigation and infrastructure whileimproving the health of powersector was also one of the mostimportant tasks.
“After roads and highways,very soon we will be looking intothe issues of the power sector,”Jaitley said.
Expecting inflation to remainunder control, Finance MinisterArun Jaitley today said he is hope-ful that the downward move ininterest rates will stay.
He said the Reserve Bank haslowered the rates on four occa-sions this year, which was a posi-tive step for the real estate sectorthat was earlier adversely impact-ed by the hardening of rates.
The RBI has cumulativelylowered its policy rate by 1.25 percent so far in 2015, including by25 basis points thrice and a better-than-expected 50 basis points inthe last monetary policy review.
“Interest rate hardening hadimpacted this (real estate) sectoradversely and it was a pre-requi-site that we kept inflation undercontrol for a sustained period oftime. (PTI)
