See you there!
A Brief History of The Potomac Huntcompiled by Austin H. Kiplinger
While The Potomac Hunt dates its present incarnation to 1931, its antecedent hunts trace their ancestry back to the early 19th century in Washington, D.C. In 1828, The Washington Hunt was organized by the Brit ish Minister, Sir Charles Vaughn, and the kennels were located at the corner of 14th St. and Pennsylvania Ave., across from the Willard Hotel. Foxhunters roamed the open territory of the Mall from Rock Creek on the west past the U.S. Capitol Build ing and as far east as the Eckington Estate near what is now the junction of Florida and New York Avenues. Later The Dumblane Hunt was organized under a magnifi cent oak tree in Tenleytown, just west of River Road and Wis consin Avenue. This was succeeded in 1892 by The Chevy Chase Hunt, which pursued live fox and a released stag from its kennels in Montgomery County. The colorful master of The Chevy Chase Hunt was Clarence Moore, who hunted hounds until he died in the sinking of the Titanic in 1912. Struck heavily by this loss, the Chevy Chase Hunt slowly wound down until it was disbanded in 1916 when the United States entered World War I. During the 1920's, fox hunting resumed in Rock Creek Park from the Washington Rid ing and Hunt Club at the corner of 22nd and P Sts., northwest. In 1931, the hounds were moved to Charlie Carrico's Bradley Farm near the intersection of River Road and Bradley Boulevard, and the Hunt was recognized by The Masters of Foxhounds Association. Three years later, hounds were moved again, this time to the Great Elm Farm of General Harry H. Semmes on Glen Road, and here they remained through World War II when foxhunting was continued on a "catch-as-catch-can" ba sis for the benefit of the foxhunters who were temporarily at home or were stationed for a while at one of the nearby military bases. In 1945, a nucleus of Hunt members, including F. Moran,"Mike" McConihe, General Semmes and Judge Richmond Keech, acquired the property on Glen Road near Travilah which served as Clubhouse and Kennels for the ensuing 35 years. In 1980 through the efforts of Thomas N. Dowd, Randolph W. Reed, Jr., Clarence W. Gosnell, Jr., Stephen H. Paley and Irvin L. Crawford, II, the Hunt moved to its present quarters off Peach Tree Road near Barnesville.

Fuad El-Hibri, visionary, entrepreneur, business leader, philanthropist, passed away on April 23, 2022, in Potomac, MD from pancreatic cancer. He was 64 years old.
In addition to his many successful businesses, Fuad served as the founding Chairman of the El-Hibri Foundation (EHF). Recognizing that strategic philanthropy was the best way to address complex societal issues, he utilized his business acumen to focus on innovative solutions. He was inspired by the universal values of Islam and supported EHF in its vision of building an inclusive society where everyone can achieve the American Dream in a diverse world. Fuad’s philanthropy helped millions.
Above all, Fuad, whose name means “heart”, will be remembered for his generous heart; a heart that brought people together and encouraged all to be their best in spreading good to this world. In Arabic there is a saying that seems just as fitting as his name, “the knight stepped down from his horse.”
