BEGINNING APOLOGETICS 1!PRACTICAL POINTS ON BIBLE READING!
THE EUCHARIST Continued...!! However, we must read the rest of this Eucharistic discourse, especially John 4858, where Jesus tells us ex-actly what He means by calling Himself "bread." The bread Jesus is speaking of is not merely a symbol for spir-itual nourishment. Jesus tells us plainly that the bread is His own flesh (verse 51), which we must eat in order to have eternal life. When Jesus explains that the bread of life is literally His flesh, we must accept His clear words.!!
! Many Protestants claim that, in John 6:6070, Je-sus explains that He was only speaking symbolically in the previous verses. They focus on verse 63, "It is the spirit that gives life, while the flesh is of no avail The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life." Be pre-pared to deal with this objection as follows:!! !! Be able to "walk" a nonCatholic step by step through John 6. Begin by reading Jn 4:3134 and Mt 16:512, which describe Jesus speaking about food in a sym-bolic or figurative way. The disciples interpret Him to mean real food. Note how Jesus shows them in plain, un-mistakable language that He is only speaking figuratively.!! (a) Jesus' Eucharistic talk ends with verse 58 (see verse 59). The dialogue of verses 6070 occurs later and deals with faith, not the Eucharist.!! (b) The word "spirit" is nowhere used in the Bible to mean "symbolic." The spiritual is just as real as the ma-terial.!!______________________________________________!!

ATTENTION GRABBERS!Many parishes uses attention grabbers, or interactive phrases to gain focus either at Mass or other liturgical cel-ebrations. Usually the priest or minister says the first phrase and the congregation responds with another phrase. When we brought this up at the last town hall meeting, we said that we would let the parishioners choose which phrase we would use here at Holy Family. We ask if you can please choose one of the three options below and place the tear off into the collection baskets. The phrase with the most votes wins!!!
1. !Priest (others): ! Praised be Jesus! Congregation: ! Now and Forever ! !2. !Priest (others): ! Holy Family! Congregation: ! Our Family!!3. !Priest (others): ! God is Good! Congregation: ! All the Time! *Vice Versa!!
