A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly “This man God raised on the third day and granted that he be visible, not to all the people but to us, the witnesses chosen by God in advance, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He commissioned us to preach to the people, and testify that he is the one appointed by God to judge the living and the dead. To him all the prophets bear witness that everyone who believes in him will receive forgiveness of sins though his name.” The resurrection accounts of Jesus’ appearances, following the empty tomb scene, are familiar and the source of hope and joy. The words of Peter in the sermon from the Acts of the Apostles, brings the meaning of His resurrection to us in 2017. Jesus’ redeeming sacrifice earns forgiveness and new life for us today. Remember, this is the same Peter who shortly before denied knowing the Lord because of fear and intimidation. This sermon of Peter, and others he spoke, as did Paul, summons us to let Easter speak to us today. The Risen Lord offers us the gift of new life, won at Calvary, and generously given if we sincerely turn to Him. May we let the grace of this day bring the richness of God’s grace to us all.
