SUNDAY: 14 FEBRUARY: 1ST SUNDAY OF LENT FROM THE PASTOR Dear parishioners, Today Jesus is tempted in the desert and shows us how we are to overcome the world, the flesh, and the devil. Just like the Israelites were in the desert for 40 years, we journey for these 40 days in penance and prayer. With Jesus at our side we too can be victorious over temptaon. It is good to give up things that we like in order to test our will and focus on God more. It is also good for us to do extra good works. As we heard on AshWednesday, prayer, fasng and almsgiving are a powerful combinaon. Let us support each other during this Lenten journey. Today is also Valenne’s Day and in our second reading from Romans 10, Paul menons the believing heart twice. He also menons the word heart from another place in scripture. So let us be God’s valenne and believe with our hearts and love with our hearts. Blessings be upon married couples and those engaged and those who are dang. May the love of God be in all of your relaonships. Just for this month, the Holy Hour in church will be moved to Thursday, February 25th at 5:30pm. Friday’s during Lent are days of absnence. The Way of the Cross will be led on Fridays at 5:30pm in church during Lent. Please come and bring the whole family! It is me to start thinking about what exactly we want to do for the interior of the restoraon of the Church. If you have any suggesons please speak to a member of the Parish Advisory Council or email me. Members of the Parish Advisory Council are Eva Guillory- Chairperson, Kathy Coldiron, Jessica Fontenot, Paul Fontenot, Tanya Guillory, Leah Hollier, Perry Meche, Sheila Miller, Ursula Miller, and Lydia Trahan. Our Trustees, Jeanor Fontenot and Chris Stromer, are ex-officio members. So please talk to any one of them listed above or myself. Please mark your calendars, our Lenten Mission this year will be led by Fr. Hampton Davis on February 29th through March 2nd at 7:00pm in church. Let’s draw a big crowd for him! FROM THE PASTOR Dear parishioners, Today Jesus is tempted in the desert and shows us how we are to overcome the world, the flesh, and the devil. Just like the Israelites were in the desert for 40 years, we journey for these 40 days in penance and prayer. With Jesus at our side we too can be victorious over temptation. Today is also Valentine’s Day and in our second reading from Romans 10, Paul mentions the believing heart twice. He also mentions the word heart from another place in scripture. So let us be God’s valentine and believe with our hearts and love with our hearts. Blessings be upon married couples and those engaged and those who are dating. A Stewardship Moment…First Sunday in Lent, February 14th: The second reading from Saint Paul to the Romans is a favorite of those involved in the ministry of evangelization. There are no “secret” disciples of the Lord. Those who exercise good stewardship of their faith realize that publicly identifying themselves as followers of Christ has a cleansing effect on their lives. Openly confessing Christ makes them more conscious of how they live their daily lives. Are we content to privatize our faith or are we good stewards of a faith that we share, make public, and regularly identify as a life in Christ?

February’s Stewardship Prayer:Merciful Lord, As we embark on our journey of renewal toward the great paschal feast of Easter, teach us to be good stewards of your mercy and forgiveness, so that we may extend these gifts to others. Give us the strength to bear witness to you at all times, even in times of stress and adversity. And fill our hearts with love that we may be faithful to the Gospel Jesus proclaimed and ready to celebrate his resurrection. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen!

NECROLOGY:Please remember the souls of these departed Priests, Deacons, Bishops, and other religious who have served our Diocese: Tuesday, February 16: Msgr. Bernard W. Neyboer (+1978) Thursday, February 18: Rev. Harry Joseph Pelous (+1994) Saturday, February 20: Msgr. Joseph Peeters (+1940); Deacon Randy LeBlanc (+2008) Sunday, February 21: Rev. Marcel Sigrist (+1969); Msgr. John Edward Gremillion (+1997)
