Summer Work
Spanish 2H, 2A
Please complete this packet of work individually during the
summer, and bring it to your Spanish teacher at NQHS or QHS on
the first day of school. Do not wait until September 1 to start
An adjective is a word that describes a noun. In Spanish all nouns have gender; they are either masculine or
feminine. Each adjective must agree with the gender and number of the noun it describes, so adjectives in
Spanish have both masculine and feminine forms, as well as singular and plural forms. We have to use the
form that agrees with the gender and number of the noun.
For adjectives ending in –o in the masculine form, change the –o to –a to get the feminine form.
Ejemplos: alto → alta bajo → baja
bonito → bonita aburrido → aburrida
Adjectives that end in –e or a consonant have the same masculine and feminine forms.
Ejemplos: fuerte → fuerte fácil → fácil
To make singular adjectives plural, add an –s.
Ejemplos: alto → altos baja → bajas
Write the feminine form of each adjective:
1. El chico es delgado. La chica es __________________________________.
2. El chico es moreno. La chica es __________________________________.
3. El chico es rubio. La chica es __________________________________.
4. El chico es pequeño. La chica es __________________________________.
5. El chico es simpático. La chica es __________________________________.
Write the plural forms of each adjective. 1. El chico es antipático. Los chicos son _________________________________.
2. El chico es interesante. Las chicas son __________________________________.
3. La chica es bonita. Las chicas son __________________________________.

Las preguntas
To form a yes/no question in Spanish, reverse the order of the subject and the verb. An upside-down question mark is used at the beginning of the questions.
Ejemplo: ¿Hablas tú español? ↑ ↑ (verb) (subject)
Remember that a question asked of you (addressed as tú or usted) should be answered with I (yo). A question asked of you plural (ustedes) should be answered with we (nosotros). A question asked about someone – him/her (él/ella) or them (ellos/ellas) – should be answered with him/her/them (él/ella/ellos/ellas).
Ejemplos: ¿Hablas tu español? ¿Habla él español?
Sí, yo hablo español. Sí, él habla español.
¿Hablan ustedes español? ¿Hablan ellos español?
Sí, nosotros hablamos español. Sí, ellos hablan español.
