WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING IN CLASS THIS WEEK Gunwalloe

This week in Gunwalloe, we have been so busy. We have been learning about different types of musical instruments and how to play

them. We have used our instrument designs to make a musical instrument of our choice from junk materials. We were very

fortunate to have Alex in to teach us how to play recorders. The children were brilliant listeners, and quickly picked up some basic

skills that we will use next week. In maths, we have been moving our Smurfs from walkers to surfers to flyers - super mathematicians in the

making. In writing, we have continued our work on highlights from the year, and the children have all brought home their secret gardens

and stories. Every day this week, we have read stories by Julia Donaldson, and the children have had such a laugh, enjoying all the characters and events that these books have in them. Have a super

long weekend and enjoy seeing your child's entries into Stithians Show if you go.

Marazion In maths, we have been learning to find halves and quarters of

shapes or amounts. The children have drawn around different 2D shapes and used a ruler to find half of the shape. They have

completed a cut and stick activity to sort shapes into two categories depending on how much of the shape has been shaded in. In phonics,

we have been reading real words and alien words, and colouring in each sound a specific colour. We have also completed a phase 5

phonics activity booklet. During art, the children had a lovely time being able to freely paint and junk model. In music, we have

continued learning the recorder and played simple tunes. We’ve now learnt the notes B, A and G, and the children are making fantastic

progress. It has been FANTASTIC to see everyone’s musical instruments for their homework task. Every single child created an

excellent instrument and was able to talk about how they made it in class. We even invited Mr Illsley down to Marazion so we could play

him some of our own music!

Sennen This week in Sennen, we have designing and writing postcards from real or imaginary destinations (not that I'm thinking about holidays). The children have tried to think about the informal style of language used in postcard writing. In maths, we have working on mass, using

digital and balance scales to measure. We have also done some estimating and found out our own mass in kilograms. Sadly, I was too busy to stand on the scales. In art, we have been finishing off our bag designs. In PE, we had an opportunity to refine the games which we

devised last week and then had a go at swapping, to try other groups' games. In PSHE, we continued with our SRE, considering gender

stereotypes. We had a very good discussion on whether or not there were certain activities which were solely for girls or boys. We also

learned a little about pregnancy. I was impressed with the children's maturity and prior knowledge. We are all looking forward to our trip

to Gwithian next Friday. If you would like a school packed lunch ordered for the day, please let us know by Wednesday at the latest.

Godrevy This week in mathematics, we have been looking at using a ruler

accurately to measure and draw straight lines to the nearest millimetre. We have also refreshed our understanding of rounding to

the nearest 10 and 100. We used these skills to round a measurement to the nearest centimetre. We have also investigated right, obtuse and acute angles. In English, we have completed our

Blitz poems and written a letter home in the role of an evacuee writing home for the first time since their evacuation. We have examined the 'Home Front' and designed our own propaganda

posters to promote rationing, make do and mend, dig for victory, the Women's Land Army and evacuation. We have also been listening to the class novel, Carrie's War set in the war based on the experiences

of two evacuee children. In music, we learnt the melody of a Coldplay and Black Eyed Peas song on the guitar, and could play along to a

backing track. In science, this week we have been studying the data collected from last week's shadow measuring, and plotting on a line graph. We have also been using mirrors to deflect light in different directions. In RE, we acted out the Sikh play of the 'forming of the

Khalsa' in the Vaisaki celebration.

Porthmeor This week, we have completed our letters to George Eustice. We have told him about our topic on the environment, what we have been researching and the problems we are concerned about. We

have also asked him whether he has any plans to help with recycling or encouraging people in the fight against plastic pollution. We have written our letters up in our best handwriting, ready to be posted. In

maths, we have carried out two investigations using a range of different methods and strategies. Thank you to all the children who brought in their baby photos. We had great fun guessing who they

were and looking at how we have changed. We have also spent time this week looking at friendships and what we can do when we have fall outs with our friends. We discussed actions we might make that

could make a situation worse and also what we could do to help 'cool down' a disagreement. In PE, we have continued with our cricket

game which showed great improvement from last week. Much more accuracy with batting and fielding! We have also sorted all the children's work ready to display at Stithians Show. Good Luck.

Kynance It's been music week in Kynance (with a little bit of SRE tagged on the end for good measure). With 20 keyboards spread around the room (with some sharing and a few even attempting to play both chords and notes themselves), the classmates learnt Hallelujah, Earth and

finished the week with a rather impressive performance of Elvis Presley's Falling In Love With You. Some members of the class went from amateurs to maestros in a matter of hours! Some should even begin to play the instrument more often as they have a real flair for

it! Every child showed great maturity during the SRE lessons, covering puberty, conception and pregnancy. Some really rather interesting

questions were asked!
