OBJECTIVE This MSc course will allow you to diagnose and quantify plant diseases in agricultural crops and, to a lesser extent, abiotic stresses due to physiological/genetic interactions with the environment. You will learn diagnostic methods for fungi, viruses and bacteria, ranging from molecular techniques to microscopy and disease assessment in field crops.

You will be introduced to common plant diseases in agri-cultural crops. The course is based on short introductory sessions followed by practical exercises in the lab or in the field. The exercises aim at assessing and quantifying di-seases using manuals, assessment keys and scales, as well as microscopy, ELISA and PCR-based methods.

The exercises are carried out in small groups under the su-pervision of teachers, providing the opportunity to study specific subjects in more detail.

CONTENTS Basic courses (BSc) in microbiology or plant pathology are recommended.
