Materials Needed

Colorful scraps from your stash or (1) 40 piece jelly roll

(quilt center)

3/4 yard solid white fabric or (10) white jelly roll strips

(quilt center)

1 1/2 yards solid navy fabric (Borders 1 & 3, Binding)

1/4 yard solid green fabric (Border 2)

3 yards backing fabric

Quilt Batting

Don’t over think fabric choices. Throw your 2.5

inch squares in a basket and randomly grab

squares to sew together in blocks.

Many different colors and patterns will make your

quilt sparkle.

Instead of using a green solid for the cornerstone

blocks and Border 2, use one of your favorite colors

to personalize your Summer Camp quilt!

Cutting Instructions

From Scraps or (1) 40 Piece Jelly Roll

(625) 2.5 x 2.5 inch squares

From Solid White Fabric or the White Jelly Roll Strips:

(40) 2.5 x 10.5 inch rectangles

From Navy Blue Solid:

(32) 1 x 1.5 inch rectangles (Cornerstone Blocks)

(32) 2.5 x 1 inch rectangles (Cornerstone Blocks)

(2) 1.5 x 58.5 inch strips (Border 1)

(2) 1.5 x 61.0 inch strips (Border 1)

(2) 2.25 x 62.5 inch strips (Border 3)

(2) 2.25 x 66.5 inch strips (Border 3)

(7) 2.5 x Width of fabric (WOF) strips (binding)

From Green Solid:

(16) 1.5 x 1.5 inch squares (Cornerstone Blocks)

(2) 1.0 X 61 inch strips (Border 2)

(2) 1.0 x 62.5 inch strips (Border 2)

Sewing Instructions:

Make the Scrappy Blocks

Step 1: Referring to the diagram at right, lay out 5 rows of 2.5

inch squares. Each row should have (5) 2.5 inch squares.

Step 2: Sew the squares together in each row and press seams

open.

Step 3: Sew the rows together and press seams open.

Step 4: Repeat Steps 1, 2 & 3 above to make a total of 25 blocks.

Each completed block should measure 10.5 x 10.5 inches.

Quilting Math

1/4 inch = .25 inch

1/2 inch = .5 inch

3/4 inch = .75 inch

All seams are 1/4 inch , unless otherwise

noted in instructions

Assume width of fabric = 42 inches

Press seams as indicated

Sew seams with right sides together

Make small stacks of (5) 2.5 inch squares for

each row. If you have an extra 5 minutes, you

can easily chain piece a row together. Before

you know it, a block will be complete!

Sewing Instructions:

Make the Cornerstone Blocks

Step 1. Referring to the diagram below, attach a 1 x 1.5 inch navy rectangle to the left and to the right of the 1.5 x 1.5 inch

green square.

Step 2. Referring to the diagram below, attach a 2.5 x 1.0 inch navy rectangle to the top and to the bottom of the unit created

in Step 1. This completed cornerstone block should measure 2.5 x 2.5 inches.

Step 3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 above to make a total of 16 cornerstone blocks.

Assemble the Quilt Center

Step 1. Referring to the diagram below, lay out the quilt blocks and the 2.5 x 10.5 inch rectangles in rows.

Step 2. Sew each row together from top to bottom and press seams open.

Sewing Instructions:

Assemble the Quilt Center (continued)

Step 3. Referring to the diagram at right, lay out (5) 2.5 x 10.5 inch rectangles and (4) cornerstone

blocks.

Step 4. Sew the rectangles and blocks together and press seams open.

Step 5. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 to make a total of 4 strips.

Step 6. Lay out the quilt rows as detailed in the diagram below. Sew the rows together and press seams open. The center of

your quilt top should now measure 58.5 x 58.5 inches

Sewing Instructions:

Add the Borders

Step 1. Border 1: Referring to Diagram 1, sew a 1.5 x 58.5 inch navy strip to the top and to the bottom of the quilt center.

Press seams toward the navy. Next sew a 1.5 x 61 inch strip to the top and to the bottom of the quilt center. Press seams

toward the navy.

Step 2. Border 2: Referring to Diagram 2, sew a 1.0 x 61 inch green strip to the top and to the bottom of the quilt center.

Press seams toward the green. Next sew a 1.0 x 62.5 inch green strip to the left and to the right of the quilt center. Press

seams toward the green.

Step 3. Border 3: Referring to Diagram 3, sew a 2.25 x 62.5 inch navy strip to the top and to the bottom of the quilt center.

Press seams toward the navy . Next sew a 2.25 x 66.5 inch navy strip to the left and to the right of the quilt center. Press

seams toward the navy.

Finish Summer Camp

Step 1: Layer the backing fabric, batting and the quilt top. Quilt using your favorite quilting technique.

Step 2: Sew the 2.5 inch binding strips together and attach to Summer Camp using your favorite binding technique.
