Students choose programs tailored to their individual needs and interests. Classes, workshops, and performance opportunities include singing, eurhythmics (learning music through movement), instrumental classes, chamber music, chorus, large ensembles, visual arts, musical theater, jazz, and rock. An exciting Composing with Technology program for grades 4–10 gives students a chance to try their hands at the creative process of composition using state-of-the-art software and hardware technology.

Our exceptional faculty made up of some of the top performers and music educators in our area provide personalized attention to each student every day. Morning, afternoon, and extended day options are available.

Register Online • www.hbms.orgSpace is limited and is on a first come, first served basis. Early registration is encouraged. Registrations received after May 15 are subject to a $75 late fee. Tuition is non-refundable after May 29, 2020. Tuition includes music, art materials and T-shirt.

Additional fee of $80 for students enrolled in piano.

Partial need-based financial aid available. Please call 914-723-1169.

A non-refundable deposit of $100 is required at the time of registration.The balance of tuition is due by May 29, 2020. Once you have registered, we will contact you to schedule a placement meeting with the Director in order to tailor the best possible program for your child.

Composing with TechnologyThis exciting workshop teaches participants the skills needed to use hardware, software, and app technology in support of their own creative compositional process. Skills students learn and experience include publishing standard computer notated scores; using MIDI files with software samples; and creating digital audio recordings. Emphasis is placed on putting technology in service of personal creativity. Student compositions will be shared at the final concert. Appropriate for students new to the use of music technology.Theory background and placement interview required.

EXTENDED DAY AFTERNOON CLASS OFFERINGS EL= Elementary; JR = Juniors; SR = Seniors

Simple Symphony (EL & JR)A first ensemble experience for string players in grades 2 - 6.

Composers Corner (EL & JR)A listening lounge designed to expand the students’ understanding of a composer’s life and times. An earful of music, a glimpse of art history, and a look at the social setting of the times.

Piano for Non-Pianists (EL, JR & SR)Group instruction in basic keyboard skills for non-pianists held in the School’s new keyboard lab. An excellent and fun opportunity for immersion in this essential instrument.

Creative Keyboard (EL, JR & SR) Piano students improvise and compose music of their own while growing in their understanding of the elements of music: melody, harmony, and rhythm.By audition.

World Drumming (EL, JR & SR) Students use African drums to explore rhythm, timbre, and a cross section of world music styles as they discover song form, ensemble playing, and improvisation. Knowledge of meter and note values is explored and reinforced.

Time for Chimes (JR & SR) Students learn to play beautiful bell-like tone chimes. An exciting approach to the study of pitch, rhythm, music notation, and learning to play in an ensemble.

Chamber Music Workshop (JR & SR)Ensemble coaching for trios, quartets, and quintets. Strings, winds, and piano.

Advanced Jazz Workshop (JR & SR)Coaching for small groups of advanced instrumentalists learning improvisational techniques central to jazz. Includes the opportunity to jam with jazz master Ed Palermo. Open to all instrumentalists.

Rock On! (JR & SR) 2:00 - 3:30 pmPerformance-based instruction open to all vocalists and instrumentalists. Hone your rock skills and develop appropriate stylistic technique while performing with a band! Write songs using Finale or Garage Band notation software and then record a demo – no experience necessary!

Musical Theater Workshop (Ages 9-15) 2:00 - 5:00 pmMusical theater is a fun-filled way to learn multiple disciplines and skills! Students explore improvisation, theater games, classical mime, “selling the song” in vocal performance, and basic theater dance. The workshop concludes with a cabaret-style performance for family and friends.
