Introducing the Visualization Technology Group

The visualization technology group (VTG) promotes theuse of visualization and virtual reality technologies forimproved understanding of scientific data and humancognition. This is performed through education andtraining programs, the creation and management ofvisualization facilities, and having full-time staff who doresearch in visualization methods, and provide expertise insoftware and hardware technologies.

Supported Software Products

• Matlab – Duke has a site license. Very good data analysis package with many built in plotting and 3D computer graphics functions. Available from OIT

• Amira – Commercial product that has a very friendly user interface. This product contains good implementations of most visualization techniques. VTG manages a site license for this product and holds summer workshops on its use.

• Virtools - Commercial product for Virtual Reality Authoring

• AVS - Commercial product for Data Analysis. Steep learning curve, but very powerfulMatlab, Amira, Virtools available in 1411 CIEMAS and 306 North
