Register today for summer camps, classes & workshops!

The Northville Art house runs classes, camps, and workshops daily from 9:00am until 9:00pm. We pride ourselves in offering small class sizes for both our 6 week classes and workshops, because of this we ask that all students pre-register. Walk-in and last minute registrations may not be accommodated.

Pre-registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis and is required to guarantee supplies. Registration forms and full tuition payment must be received before the first class.

Classes require at least three students enrolled in order to run or they will be cancelled. The Northville Art House reserves the right to cancel any class for any reason. In this event, students will receive a full refund.

The Northville Art House does not prorate classes. A 50% discount will be given to any student who cancels their registration before the first class. After the first class, no refund will be given.

Please note that some classes have an additional materials fee. These fees are payable to the instructor.

Class prices are listed for members (M) and non-members (NM). Registration online or in person starts May 5th, 2017 for summer 2017.

The Northville Art House shines a spotlight on the imagination, art, talent and cultural diversity of

artists throughout the region when the annual Arts and Acts Festival returns for the sixth

consecutive year June 16-18 in historic downtown Northville. The Festival includes the 29th annual

juried fine art show Art in the Sun, featuring over 70 talented artists; the Sandbox Play Festival

produced by Tipping Point Theatre; the Short on Words Literary Contest; musical entertainment

featuring some of metro Detroit’s top musicians; children’s activities; the new Young Artist Juried

Art Fair; the Northville Art House Chalk Festival; and a large variety of food and drink.

Week 1 - Around the World: Instructor Maria Latour: Adventures in Painting and Drawing; June 19th – 22nd Grades 3rd – 7th Students won't need a passport to explore the art from a different country each day of this fun filled minicamp. Australia, Africa, Italy and France...media explored will include clay, paint and pastels. Week 2 - Summertime Fun: Instructor Maria Latour: Painting and Drawing; June 26th – 29th

K – 2nd Grade Students Celebrate summer with art projects based on summertime activities including a day at the beach, amusement park rides and eating ice cream! Media include: acrylic paint, watercolor, oil pastel and colorful clay! Finish the week painting a t-shirt to wear during your own summer adventures.

Week 3 - Heroes & Monsters: Instructor Amber Valentine: Drawing, Painting & Sculpture; July 10th – 13th

Grades 1st – 4th Become a superhero! Create your own bad-guy-bashing persona, cape and all, sketch and paint yourself as your Hero, and sculpt a mini-monster bad guy to take home to keep in your very own Fortress of Solitude! This class is for both girls and boys who want to learn how to feel empowered through art!

Paint a sea turtle, sculpt a dolphin, draw a sea horse and beach sand will be used to create an ocean landscape Week 5 – Paint Exploration: Instructor Nancy Barick: Watercolor & Acrylic paints; July 24th – 27th ($20 materials fee)

Grades 4th – 8th Students will explore color, blending, brush strokes and more. Learn the various fun ways acrylic and watercolor paints can be used.

Week 6 – Exploring Graphic Design: Instructor Nancy Barick; July 31st – August 3rd

Grades 6th – 10th Students will design and create images combined with lettering to make eye catching posters, signs, trading cards and more. We will be using inks, stencils, markers, and various paint mediums.

Week 7 – Teen Mixed Media: Instructor Julie Woodard Aug. 14th – 17th ($20 materials fee)

Grades 6th – 10th Students will learn about and have fun creating and expressing themselves artistically while learning specific techniques for these four different mediums: mosaics, printmaking, watercolor & pastel.

Week 8 – Animals Wild & Tame: Instructor Julie Woodard Drawing, Painting & Sculpture; Aug. 21st – 24th

Grades 2nd – 5th Grrrrrr….Wild & tame animals will be explored in a variety of different medium using tools & techniques in this fun sampler camp.

Tie Dye & T-Shirts Instructor Maria Latour

Children 9 – 13 will create DIY wearable art! In this class, students will tie-dye a t-shirt and fabric, then add to their colorful designs using fabric paint, stamps and foam rollers.

SEWTASTIC Instructor: Maria Latour Children 9-13 yr. (limit 6)

This popular summer camp is now a 2 day workshop for kids who love to sew or are just starting out. Kids’ ages 9-13 will design and create their own fleece stuffed animal learning hand sewing techniques.

Wed. & Thurs, June 21st – 22nd; 1:30 – 4:00 PM (M) $28; (NM) $31 (Additional $7 materials fee payable to instructor.)

CREATIVE ART EXPLORATION Instructor: Maria Latour Children ages 4 -8 years that are comfortable without a parent/caregiver. Each class will explore creative thinking and expression using paper, paint, clay and more! Projects designed to develop fine motor skills and enhance creative development. (Additional $5 material fee given to instructor for each class.)

Monday: Teddy Bear Picnic

Learn how to paint Teddy bears and other stuffed animals sitting down for a summer picnic. June 26th; 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm (M) $18; (NM) $20 Tuesday: Paint with What?

CREATIVE KIDS DRAWING & PAINTING Instructor: Amber Valentine

Kids (ages 5-10) will have fun drawing & painting a variety of scenes in this 2 day class learning about shapes, shading, color, perspective, composition, and more. Drawings & paintings will be completed in colored pencil, watercolor & acrylics.

Manga Mixed Media Workshop Instructor: Amber Valentine Children 8 – 12 yr. (limit 8) Use your imagination to create your very own Japanese cartoon manga, monster critter, or companion of your dreams! Sketch your anime inspired friend onto paper than transform them into a 3d clay piece to help it come to life! YOUNG ADULT CREATIVE ART STUDIO Instructor: Amber Valentine For ages 9-14: Each month, join the Art House for a night of creativity and fun with easy, one night, D-I-Y projects like candle making, paper mache, clay carving and more. Chill with your friends, meet new people, and listen to music while you snack, chat, and have a great time! The best part? You get to take home whatever you make with you that same night! (Additional $6 materials fee payable to the instructor.)

Open Crochet Studio Instructor: Jenna Woodcox Dabbled in crochet but not sure if you are on the right path? Have a crochet project but are stuck? This open workshop is for you! Please feel free to bring in any type of project you may have started or have even been looking at to get advice from our instructor. Whether its questions on tools or materials, reading a pattern, or small to large difficulties- you are bound to learn something new in this two hour open session. (Students to bring their own materials, tools and reference material). Studio time for 12yr. to Adults.

Intuitive painting With Kyle Pryce MA LPC CAADC

This three day workshop will give students a chance to explore the roots of their own unique sense of creativity. We will get to know ourselves in a deeper level using different exercises that help facilitate

creative thinking and expression. We will explore how creating from the heart can be a means not only for self-expression, but also a way to relieve stress, and a healthy emotional outlet.

SUMMER CLASSES & WORKSHOPS FOR ADULTS: Explore your inner artist this summer at the Art House.

2 Day ADULT MIXED MEDIA Instructor: Amber Valentine Students 15yrs. to adults Delve deeper into the art of mixed media. In this two day hands-on workshop, students will learn new techniques using various mediums and art forms to take their self-expression to the next level. Learn how to use found objects in collages on canvas, utilize vintage source materials, and learn how to take old dolls from drab to fab by re-rooting their hair and repainting their faces. All supplies will be provided though students are encouraged to bring their own scissors, photographs, books, magazine pages, and soft vinyl dolls. No experience necessary. Students 15 and up are welcome! Saturday & Sunday; July 15 – 16; 10:00 am – 12:00 pm; (M) $48, (NM) $52 (An additional $30 materials fee will be made payable to the instructor.)

BEADED 2DAY JEWERLY WORKSHOP Instructor: Maria Latour Students 15 yrs. to adults Students will learn techniques for attaching clasps and beading a bracelet and necklace using metal, crystal, and semi precious stone beads. Jewelry Workshop: Wrap Bracelets Instructor: Maria Latour Students 15 yrs. to adults In this two day workshop you will learn how to make trendy wrap bracelets with leather and glass beads. Each student will make a bracelet that wraps around the wrist twice. But once you learn the simple stitch you will want to make more! Art House Director Selling and marketing your work online can expand your audience base and help

increase interest in, and sales of, your work. Do you know how to use hash tags to

help people find your work? Do you know how to use videos on Facebook and

Instagram to show your process and allow your potential buyers to interact with

you? Join us at this 3 hour workshop designed to give you the basics in social

media for artists. We will cover Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. The last 30

minutes of the workshop will be for questions and 1 on 1 help. It is recommended that participants have a beginner knowledge of social media.

BEGINNING WATERCOLOR Workshop Instructor: Julie Woodard This workshop is for those who have little or no experience with watercolor. This workshop will help students become comfortable with watercolor painting techniques and enjoy the process of painting. Painting with Alcohol Inks Instructor: Julie Woodard

Enjoy painting with this exciting and colorful medium? Instruction will be given on techniques using a variety of non-porous materials. Students will complete projects on ceramic tile and yupo paper. It is advised to bring a mask and gloves.

BEGINNING PASTEL WORKSHOP Instructor: Julie Woodard Designed for beginners, this workshop will help you gain knowledge and experience in areas such as: color theory, art elements, principles of art, as well as the development of one’s own unique style. This workshop provides a relaxed atmosphere where creativity and comfortable learning are the teacher’s goals in helping each student learn at his/ her own pace.

Exploring Acrylic Workshop Instructor: Julie Woodard Explore painting using the versatile medium of acrylics starting with the basic level. No experience necessary. INTERPRETING PHOTOS IN FABRIC: Landscape Art Quilting Instructor: Patti Devine Start with an inspiration picture and learn how to turn it into an original art quilt. This workshop is for beginner to more experienced quilters and other fabric enthusiasts. Learn how to make a pattern from your photograph, choose a fabric palette, fuse and design a simple art quilt. Students should bring in 1 inspiration picture or photo and a color paper copy enlarged to the size of their finished piece, no larger than 11 x 18". Students will complete one large art quilt top. A list of required materials will be provided

when registration is received.

FIGURE DRAWING WORKSHOP New drop in studio times with model!

Anatomy for Artists with Amy Foster Summer Workshop 2017

This week long intensive workshop is a must for any artist who is hoping to better their life drawing skills. It is recommended that you are already familiar with basic

life drawing as this is not a beginner class. We will be looking at, discussing and simplifying the entire bone structure which is what establishes an armature for muscle and flesh to sit upon. After two days of focusing on the bone structure,

we will move into the muscle structure and learn what makes each person unique. Live models will be present daily so students can put this new found knowledge to

the test after each mini-lecture. Instructor will utilize the skeleton, completed anatomical drawings, handouts, books and many, many drawing demonstrations

to share her love of the figure. Instructor: Amy Foster

behalf of myself, my child, and our representatives, the Northville Art House, City of Northville and the Northville Arts Commission from liability for

injuries and damages which I or my child may sustain while participating in this activity even if the injuries or damages are caused by the sole negligence
