OPPORTUNITIES
FOR TEENS
Remember, your College & Career
Counselors are a wealth of information!
Visit their websites for updates, and
check in with them to talk about how
opportunities to get involved and
accelerate your learning align with your
postsecondary goals. After all,
universities want to see well-rounded
students who have passion and
inspiration as a foundation for their
pursuit of education.
College, career, service, and exploratory opportunities for middle and high school students
The opportunities noted in this packet have been compiled by Academy 20 College & Career
Services with assistance from the Discovery Canyon Campus High School College & Career
Center and are not representative of all available programs. This list is meant for informational
purposes only; Academy District 20 does not endorse out-of-district programs listed herein.
The Penrose Teen Volunteer Program is for teens between the ages of 14 and 17. Many volunteer because they want to explore healthcare careers, fulfill high school community service hours, accumulate volunteer hours for college applications, and to make a positive impact in the community. Volunteers serve four hours once per week in a position of their choosing.
Experience a “real-world” look at specific healthcare and medical career fields in Memorial Hospital’s Junior Medical School. Students will learn from engaging topics and hands-on activities. This program is open to students ages 16-18 at the time of application who also have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Sessions are available each month of the summer.
These camps, designed for those entering 9th through
12th grade in the fall of 2016, provide exposure to real-
world problem solving in a team environment and provide
opportunities to learn design skills that are applicable to
many fields of engineering.
