Commodore’s Log
Good Day Mates, Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! As I write this log I can still feel the exhilaration of handing our CYC treasurer a bag full of money, your generous donations (the “fishnet collection”) that help “Your Lake Association” work toward the protection and preservation of our beautiful Lake Cobbossee-contee. You well know the serious consequences of ignoring the issues! Invasive plants suck the life out of a lake and virtually kill its recreational viability. We must be vigilant in our pursuit to prevent that occurrence. Your donations are critical and this year you have more than stepped forward. What a great success. From you, our volunteer collectors netted a total of…..$2, 058.25, a record amount! Thank you all! And what an overall wonderful day it was. The weather cooperated for our Concert in Horseshoe Cove, the crowd was well behaved and cooperative, and School Street Band was…..well, School Street Band! And I fortunately have no nasty incidents to report at this time. Thank you! So, put the 4th Sat-urday in July on your 2015 calendar. This has definitely been a nice summer, but it sure seems as though it just passes us by so fast once it arrives. We started our CYC summer events as usual on the last Saturday in June with another success-ful party at the Monmouth home of Debbi and John Farrell. Soon thereafter, always the 2nd Saturday in July, we had a fine evening at the Augusta Country Club for our annual meeting with a relaxing so-cial hour, an excellent buffet, and interesting lake information provided by Tamara Whitmore of the Friends of the Cobbossee Watershed, Bill Monagle of the Cobbossee Watershed District and Debbi Far-rell from the CYC. Put this one on your calendar for 2015! By the time you read this, CYC will have celebrated its 110th birthday at the home of former CYC Com-modore, Captain Hugh Stephens, and his wife, Betty, an event arranged by them, and we certainly hope that you had the opportunity to attend. Be sure to check out the pictures here in this newsletter and on our website. Now, please refer to the 3 remaining events of our summer season and put these on your calendar as well. Enjoy! Now, allow me to again conclude this column with the reminder that we are in fact, “Your Lake Associ-ation!” And we request that you help us spread that word about us, and recommend to all folks that you know who have an interest in our lake to join the Cobbossee Yacht Club as we continue to work to preserve this awesome lake that we all love!
Bon Voyage, David Dennett, CYC Commodore
Tom and Kate jet ski to all the money! What a spontaneous group staying cool in the lake just in
front of the band.
Looks like this little one is having a pleasant ride! Woof! Raft up, put up the awnings and relax!
Welcome “Friends!” Hope the ice cream sales went well. Just part of the Robichard clan enjoying the afternoon!
110th Birthday Celebration
On August 2, CYC members gathered at the home of Hugh and Betty Stephens to cele-
brate the 110th birthday of the Cobbossee Yacht Club, “Your Lake Association.” Food
was provided by guests, Hugh presented an interesting demonstration about how to tow
a boat and how to tie critical knots, and just the right background music was provided
by Elaine Bender who also performs with the “Swingtime” band. Festivities concluded
as the guests sang, “Happy Birthday to Us,” and the commodore and vice commodore
blew out the candles.
Yes, “Your Lake Association” is 110 years old this year!
Hugh doing his thing with a very attentive audience. Hugh, Bill and Tom having a good time prior to the
demonstration.
