Since the launch of Community Partnership for Homeless’ mobile dental unit in early December 2005, the unit has seen an average of six to sixteen people a day. “This is a huge success,” said H. Daniel Vincent, executive director of Community Partnership for Homeless. “We are able to fill a large need in our community by taking these dental services to our residents.” Stationed at the Chapman Center three days a week, and at the South Dade Center two days a week, the new $350,000 dental unit is expected to serve approximately 3,600 homeless residents of CPH per year. The truck is far from ordinary. From the outside, the dental unit looks like an oversized truck; but on the inside, it holds two full-functioning dental laboratories. The unit provides free dental treat- ment to all of CPH’s residents and offers cleanings, fillings and extraction services to all residents free of charge. Overseeing the Dental Unit is dentist, Laurence Margolis, along with his assistants, Anita Salazar and Jessica Horne. Now tagged the “Roadside Dentist,” Dr. Margolis goes above and beyond, also providing other intensive services. “Thanks to CPH, thousands of peo- ple in need will finally have the ability to visit a den- tist, something that many people take for granted,” Margolis said.

It is a great honor to be writing my first letter as chairman ofCommunity Partnership for Homeless. Since coming on board inSeptember 2005 we have made tremendous strides and haveaccomplished so much. I sincerely hope that the momentum wehave started is indicative of what is to come the second half ofthis year.
Last October’s Gala was a true success. Our sold-out eventraised well over one million dollars, despite it taking place righton the heels of hurricane Wilma.
Later in the year we celebrated the holidays at both centers. Inan effort to make our residents feel the spirit of the holiday season, we brought joy to the children by distributing the manygifts donated by our community. Volunteers at both centersserved a very special and traditional holiday dinner. The smilesand thanks our residents shared with us those days exemplify thetrust, security and hope we bring to them each and every day.
The second annual Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida Tropical5K benefiting Community Partnership for Homeless went offwithout a hitch. In January, more than 2,000 runners joinedMiami celebrities to run for the homeless and helped raised thousands of dollars. Our board member, Amarilis Osorio, hasbeen instrumental in bringing together the past two 5K events. She has gone above and beyond to make the run/walk the successful event that it has become in just two short years. Thanks to world-renowned artist, Romero Britto, who donatedhis artwork to be auctioned off with the proceeds benefitingCPH, additional dollars were raised. This year, Amarilis hastaken on a new challenge. We will have a 5K that is entirely ours. The 2007 Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida Celebrity 5K will beheld on April 1. More information will be shared, as we get closer to the date.
Our volunteers, the heart and soul of this organization, wererecognized for their devotion and hard work this spring.Hundreds attended our yearly luncheon in their honor. We
would not be here today withouttheir support.
The committees of CommunityPartnership for Homeless continue to do great work. TheDevelopment Committee, withthe leadership of Allan Pekor andCarlos Fernandez-Guzman, continues to raise the dollarsneeded for the organization;Jonah Pruitt, Chair of the GalaCommittee, along with his groupare planning a very exciting eventfor November 3; the Religious
Committee, with Rev. Thom Shafer’s direction, continue to lookfor resources for our meal program. Lynn Lewis with the assis-tance of Sister Jeanne O’Laughlin, heads our Strategic PlanningCommittee. They have been doing an extraordinary job and thateffort will be complete in October 2006. Joanna Wragg, APR,who leads the Public Relations and Marketing Committee, seeksto increase the organization’s visibility in our community. Dr.Evalina Bestman and Merrett Stierheim are doing an operationsand management study, which is due out soon.
I would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of CPH.They are key to all that takes place in our organization and weare grateful for their work and tireless dedication.
Thank you, once again, to the board for the support they haveshown to me as the new chair. Together we can make a differenceto better the lives of those we help and assist. We offer dignityand hope to all so that no persons sleep on the streets of our com-munity.
Sincerely,Robert E. Chisholm, FAIAChairman

Mobile Dental UnitCommunity Partnership for Homeless Celebrates theSuccessful Launch of its Mobile Dental Unit
Spanish novelist, Miguel de Cervantes, oncesaid, “Every tooth in a man's head is morevaluable than a diamond.“ Now, thanks to
Community Partnership for Homeless’ new state-of-the-art mobile dental unit, thousands of peoplea year will be able to experience exactly whatCervantes meant.
Since the launch of Community Partnership forHomeless’ mobile dental unit in early December2005, the unit has seen an average of six to sixteenpeople a day.
“This is a huge success,” said H. Daniel Vincent, executive director of Community Partnership forHomeless. “We are able to fill a large need in ourcommunity by taking these dental services to ourresidents.”
Stationed at the Chapman Center three days a week, and at the South Dade Center two days aweek, the new $350,000 dental unit is expected toserve approximately 3,600 homeless residents ofCPH per year.
The truck is far from ordinary. From the outside,
the dental unit looks like an oversized truck; but on the inside, it holds two full-functioning dentallaboratories. The unit provides free dental treat-ment to all of CPH’s residents and offers cleanings, fillings and extraction services to all residents free of charge.
Overseeing the Dental Unit is dentist, Laurence
Margolis, along with his assistants, Anita Salazarand Jessica Horne. Now tagged the “RoadsideDentist,” Dr. Margolis goes above and beyond, alsoproviding other intensive services.
“Thanks to CPH,thousands of peo-ple in need willfinally have the
ability to visit a den-tist, something thatmany people take forgranted,” Margolissaid.
