1.0 INTRODUCTION...................................... l
2.0 LOCATION AND ACCESS............................... l
3.0 PROPERTY DESCRIPTION.............................. l
3.1 Disposition Status........................... l
The Loon Lake-Mishi West property is situated in the
southern limb of the Mishibishu synform, southwest of the Central
Crude Pluton and northwest of the Floating Heart batholith.
The northern part of the property is underlain by massive to
weakly foliated medium to coarse grained gabbro, while the
Central portion is covered by fine to medium grained porphyritic
mafic volcanic rock which has a general east-west strike and
shallow dips to the north. Polymict conglomerate with elongated
l-5cm felsic c lasts outcrops in the southern part of the property
around tieline 12 and 15+OON.
All the above lithologies are cut by nor thwes t - sou theas t
trending weakly magnetic diabase dykes.
5.0 GEOLOGICAL HAPPING AND PROSPECTING
Geological mapping and prospecting was carried out by
Noranda field crews between September 21 and November 13, 1989.
The objective of the survey was to follow-up geophysical
anomalies and outline zones of interest for future work. A total
of 84 grab samples were collected and analysed for gold.
Rusty gossanous gabbro with 2-10 percent disseminated
pyrite, pyrrhotite and magnetite was discovered along the south
shore of Loon Lake. Grab samples from this zone did not return
significant assays.
Several sugary white quartz veins with traces of
disseminated sulphides were sampled. However, no significant
assays were returned.
6.0 SOIL GEOCHEMISTRY
A soil geochemistry survey was conducted over the northern
portion of the property between September 21 and November 13,
1989. A total of 502 B-horizon (A-horizon soil where necessary)
were collected along the 200m spaced flagged and cut grid lines
at 25m intervals. Samples were field dried and shipped to Chemex
Laboratories of Mississauga for gold analyses.
The purpose of the survey was to identify zones of anomalous
gold and provide targets for future follow-up exploration works.
Analyses results indicate that 7.5/2 of the soil samples are
weakly anomalous (^0 ppb). The majority of these occur in the
northwest corner of the property.
7.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Although outcrop exposure is poor, the present survey was
useful in outlining the major rock units in the property. To
date only few grab samples have returned significant gold assays.
Most soil geochemical anomalies are clustered in the northwest
corner of the property.
Continuation of all field programs is warranted. A soil
geochemistry survey should be continued to cover areas that were
not covered during the current survey. Detailed geological
mapping and prospecting must be continued throughout the property
and as follow-up to zones of interest outlined in the 1989 work.
