CHAPTER OFFICERS Knights of Columbus Vol. 14 No. 5 November 2014 SUFFOLK CHAPTER NEWS From the Chapter Chairman’s Desk … My Brothers/Sisters; First I want to thank the brother delegates for approving/passing the new Chapter budget. I would also like to congratulate all the brother knights who became “Sir Knights” this past month. I just have one thing to say “ Where has the Summer Gone”, I am so not ready for the cold weather my brothers. By now most of you should have the new chapter directories. If any councils haven’t received them please let us know. Last month I asked you to help support our Sister Columbiettes in there fundraiser for Little Flower Home in Wading River called “ Komforters for Kidz”. I hope we do better this month because I was kind of disappointed with the response. After all, the ladies are always there for us and this is something we should do to help them. So please bring a new twin size comforter to the next chapter meeting and maybe the ladies can reach their goal of 100 comforters. My brothers we should try and support anything our ladies do. This month we will be hosting our Annual Memorial Mass/Installation with our Bishop and our Sister Columbiettes. It will be held on November 16 at 3pm at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church with a repast directly following at Patchogue council. If you plan on going please contact my chairman DD Mike Boehm. My brothers, I am asking you to help the Suffolk County Conference with your support on November 8 at Joan of Arc Council for a roast chicken dinner fundraiser. My brothers/sisters remember to vote especially if you don’t like what our government is doing and you want a change you must Vote! Also this month we must not forget our Veterans on Veteran’s Day. If you see a veteran just say “thank you for keeping us safe”! Our next meeting will be November 14 at the Shrine of St. Anne Council in Brentwood…see you there! My Dear Sister Columbiettes, We began the month of October with our Annual Memorial Mass held at Our Lady of the Shrine in Eastport, NY with 17
auxiliaries represented. Fr. Werner celebrated the Holy Eucharist for us and welcomed us with open arms as we remembered not only our deceased sisters, but Fr. Jim and Lenny Oliveri as well. I must share my excitement when I learned the celebrant for our special Mass would be Fr. Werner, the Pastor of my church, St. Mary Gate of Heaven, when I was a little girl in Ozone Park, Queens, 40+ years ago. Many in attendance joined together for a dinner which immediately followed. We were thrilled to have kind words shard via email by Barbara Ann Lucarelli our Supreme President, and it was great to have our Jeanne Mucci, our State President join us for dinner. Thank you Barbara Chiesa for your dedication to both a memorable and successful day.
We continued October with our Spooktakular fund raiser which was Spectacular! All in attendance had a great time. The costumes were fantastic as you can see in the photos shared in this newsletter! Thank you to all supported us and Elaine Addie and her committee for a job well done. We extend our thanks to the Shrine of St. Anne for the help with refreshments. We also extend a special thanks to Frank Pinto for the use of the hall for this event. Your support to us has been greatly appreciated.
November is the deadline for the Komforters for Kids! Anne Marie Callahan has been going home from each time we meet with a car full of comforters. Thank God for her sidekick Kathy Anderson who has been seen with a loaded car on an occasion or two also! We extend our sincerest thanks to all who found this to be a worthy cause and have made a donation! Please bring your comforters to our November 17 meeting which is being held at J.V. Kavanaugh in Mastic and will begin at 8:00 p.m. As we celebrate Christmas at this meeting, please be sure to wear your Keep Christ in Christmas shirts, or a Christmas sweater, bring your singing voices (I hear Barbara Chiesa is ready for a great sing-a-long), and be ready to have a fun night! Encourage members other than your delegates and alternates to join us! We look forward to a great night! This year we started selling “Keep Christ in Christmas” magnets and we couldn’t get them to you fast enough! I believe at the time I am writing this letter we have sold out! Thanks to all who share this beautiful message and thanks to Elaine Addie for a great job! As a reminder, the Installation of our Officers is being held along with the Knights’ Installation and Bishop’s Mass on Sunday, November 16, 2014. Kathy Anderson has been working very closely with Michael Boehm in making certain that this day is special for all. If you are planning on attending this event, you MUST RSVP to either of them to guarantee a seat. Thanks! We look forward to seeing many of you in attendance.
St. Sylvester Knights have allowed us to use their Council once again for our Day of Recollection which is being held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Fr. Donnelley will be joining us once again as he always offers us a wonderful experience. As this event has been very successful Nancy Yenke and Jean Bodami will be taking reservations at our November meeting. The cost is $5.00 per person, plus the cost of your lunch. Nancy and Jean will be ordering Chinese or Italian or you may brown bag it if you prefer. We look forward to a most spiritual day with our sister Columbiettes. We look forward to a successful Major Degree and are anxious to welcome and invite our new members to get involved and enjoy the great experience of doing good for others.
On behalf of the officers and myself, we ask you to keep our Veteran’s in your prayers on Veteran’s Day and we wish you a very happy and healthy Thanksgiving. We ask that you take the time to reflect on all you have and be thankful. We also ask you to keep those who are less fortunate than ourselves in your prayers and remember them at your thanksgiving table. May God continue to bless you all. Fraternally,
Amelia Joseph Suffolk Chapter Columbiette President

In 1954, lobbying by the Order of the Knights of Columbus
helped convince the U.S. Congress to add the phrase "under
God" to the Pledge of Allegiance. President Dwight
Eisenhower wrote to Supreme Knight Luke E. Hart thanking
the Knights for their "part in the
movement to have the words 'under God'
added to our Pledge of Allegiance." “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United
States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God,
indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. ”

Prayer for the Canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an
apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his
life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up
his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we
may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your servant
Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor
I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be to the Father.
Happy Thanksgiving to all! Jesus, thank you for loving us;
