HSC REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible for a HSC you must

satisfactorily complete a minimum of

12 units in the Year 11 Preliminary course

and

10 units in the Year 12 HSC course

What are units?

All courses have a unit value

Most courses are 2 units

2 units = 100 marks in the HSC

HSC Requirements

• 6 units must be Board Developed

• 2 units of English must be studied

• At least 3 X 2 unit courses

• At least 4 subjects

Preliminary & HSC Timeline

Preliminary Course begins Term 1 (2016) and lasts for 3 terms.

The HSC Course begins in Term 4 (2016) and lasts 4 terms.

Your HSC exams take place in

Term 4 (2017)

Any leave from school will put your place in Year 11 (or Year 12) at risk. The school may recommend you repeat the

course.

70 hours per 240 hour course

35 hours in Year 11 + 35 hours in Year 12

Recognised by TAFE and Industry

One VET course = 35 hours out of school commitment

No more than two recommended

If you study a 2 Unit VET course in Year 11 and drop it in Year 12, you still receive

120 hours of nationally recognised vocational accreditation.

Saturday School of Community Languages

• Students may choose to study a community language at Saturday School

• Students must attend on Saturday mornings from 8:30 to 11:30am

• provide credit towards nationally recognised qualifications

• count as units of study on your Year 11 Record of Achievement, or your Year 12 HSC

• Schools can only offer limited positions for TVET study

• Most classes delivered on a Tuesday afternoon between 1:30pm-5:30pm

• School and after school activities must be managed around TVET study

Subject selection process

• Students interviewed individually on Monday/Tuesdayo Students have completed Careers Survey and Worksheeto Students need to bring their school report with them for their

interview• Students check their school email account to retrieve their password

– Tuesday night• Logon to the subject selection website

your password: sent to you at your email address• Print your choices and get parents to sign – return to Ms Hale• Letter will go home in Term 4 confirming student subjects for year

11 – very few changes will be allowed next year.

The RoSA

• is a cumulative credential in that it allows students to accumulate their academic results until they leave school.

• records completed Stage 5 and Preliminary Stage 6 courses and grades, and participation in any uncompleted Preliminary Stage 6 courses.

• is of specific use to students leaving school prior to the HSC.

The RoSA

• Any time a student wants an up-to-date snapshot of their academic progress, a transcript called a Student eRecord can be accessed via Students Online and printed or emailed.

• Students who go on to complete the HSC will see all their Stage 6 (Year 11 and 12) courses and results on their HSC.
