The competition was divided into six divisions to cater for the different skill levels of scrabble players and school age groups. The Open division catered for the more seasoned and competitive scrabble players, some of them have played in previous World Scrabble Championships. The Intermediate division was mainly for the Secondary school children who have been playing competitive Scrabble for the school and also adult players. The age group sections Primary U12, Secondary U15 and U18 divisions were for school participants while the Beginners division was for those who are starting to play competitive Scrabble This year’s edition attracted an increased number of participants of a total of two hundred and ninety- two (292) players, making this event, a national level competition and one of the biggest gatherings of the Scrabble players in Malaysia. The registration for each division was as below: Open division – 22 participants, Intermediate division – 32 participants, Beginners division – 74 participants, Primary U12 division – 86 participants, Secondary U15 division - 42 participants, Secondary U18 division - 36 participants. The Tournament was endorsed by the Ministry of Education and rated nationally by MSA and the ratings are published in MSA’s website www.penster.com. Report by Ir. A total of twenty-two (22) players took part in the Open division playing fifteen (15) rounds of scrabble. This division featured many top-rated Scrabble players in Malaysia and Singapore.
After fifteen rounds of intense scrabble matches, Pui Cheng Wui emerged champion with 11 wins and margin of 782 points. Goutham Jayaraman and Martin Teo managed to finish as 1st Runners up (10 wins with margin 569 spread) and 2nd Runners up (10 wins with margin 461 spread) respectively. The top six (6) prize winners were William Kang (10 wins with 405 spread), Vannitha Balasingam (9 wins with 1001 spread) and Kong Chock Heng (9 wins with 314 spread), in that order.
The Champion received a trophy and cash prize of RM 500, and an additional RM250 being the first Repeat Champion in 11 years of the tournament history. The runners up received trophies and RM250 and RM125 respectively. Additional cash awards were given to the fourth and fifth placed finishers. Consolation prizes were given up to nine top finishers. High word award was achieved by Rehdy Khairil scoring 131 points with word “CLOTTING”.

Intermediate Division In the Intermediate division, there were thirty-two (32) players playing six (6) rounds of scrabble. Rinesh Rajan emerged Champion winning 6 games with margin of 966 points. The runners up positions went to Yeo Zhi En and Chow Zhuo Xue each with 5 wins with spread of 291 points and 168 points respectively. The top five (5) cash prize winners were Anthony Ben Decruz (4 wins with 344 spread) and Jonson Lim (4 wins with 245 spread), respectively. The Champion received a trophy and cash prize of RM250 while the runners up received trophies and RM100 and RM75 respectively. Additional prizes were given to the fourth to twelveth placed finishers. Certificate of participation was given to student participants. High word award was achieved by Wang Xiang Nian scoring 156 points with word “QUEZALS”.

Beginners Division In the Beginners Division, seventy-four (74) players registered on the 28th July 2019 to play five (5) rounds of enthusiastic and competitive scrabble. Rachel Decruz and Adlee Kim Singam managed to win all 5 games. However, Rachel emerged Champion with a better spread of 584 points ahead of Adlee with spread of 366 points. Aidan Nathaniel was declared as 2nd Runners Up with 4 wins and spread of 569 points. The top six (6) positions were completed by Chow Kah Yee, Jane Kang and Jaishnavi Jayaganes in that order, all of whom obtained 4 wins. The top twenty winners were presented with prizes while the top three finishers were also given trophies. High word award was won by Aidan Nathaniel scoring 101 points with “SEXTAIN”.

Primary U12 Division In the Primary U12 Division, eighty-six (86) players registered on the 27th July 2019 to play six (6) rounds of competitive scrabble. Vyasa Dheva completed the rounds with 6 wins and was declared the Champion. Ali Imran Bin Hisham (spread of 837 points), Muhammad Akif (spread of 597 points), Yang Wen Kai (spread of 581 points), Tashwin Engad Ravana (spread of 516 points), Kaleeshwar Naidu (spread of 468 points), Chen Kyleen (spread of 279 points) and Patrick Heng Bing Xi (spread of 109 points) all finished with 5 wins and their position depended on the spread points respectively. The top twenty winners were presented with prizes while the top three finishers were also given trophies. Certificates of participation were given to all student participants. The high word award was presented to Titus Anand for scoring 150 points for the word “KINDERS”.

Secondary U15 Division In the Secondary U15 Division, forty-two (42) players registered on the 27th July to play six (6) rounds of competitive scrabble. Jareth Mah Zhen Seong was declared Champion after achieving six wins. 1st and 2nd Runners Up position went to Kyan Teo Ching-Wei (with spread of 944 points) and Kreesan Bathmanaban (with spread of 588 points) respectively after both finished with 5 wins each. The top six (6) positions were completed by Iman Najmi, Eirfan Razman and Aadhi Shankara, in that order. The top ten winners were presented with prizes while the top three finishers were also given trophies. Certificates of participation were given to all student participants. High word award was achieved by Dharshini Gunasekarn scoring 166 points with word “MUZJIKS”.

Secondary U18 Division In the Secondary U18 Division, thirty-six (36) players registered on the 27th July to play six (6) rounds of scrabble competition. Keeran Bathamanaban who completed the rounds with 6 wins was declared Champion.1st and 2nd Runners Up positions with 5 wins went to Aaron Danker (with spread of 491 points) and Yeo Zhi En (with spread of 372 points) respectively. The top six (6) positions were completed by Kanmani Chanthran, Lai Yong Ching and Megan Raaj Sethu respectively. The top ten winners were presented with prizes while the top three finishers were also given trophies. Certificates of participation were given to all student participants. High word award was given to Keeran Bathmanaban scoring 147 points with word “FINJANS”.
