STYLE GUIDELINES1. INTRODUCTION

Introduction

Brand identity is very important to Active Lincolnshire. It allows the public to associate promotional, written and printed material with us and ensures that such material is of the standard and quality that we expect. In these guidelines our ‘brand’ incorporates our logo, colour palette, use of imagery, typography and additional graphical elements.

These guidelines aim to help you when using the Active Lincolnshire brand in the promotion and marketing of the organisation. They allow us to reach and inspire people to become more active and to help us carry out our mission and values. They are intended not as a straight-jacket but as a creative stimulus for anyone involved in promoting Active Lincolnshire, whether that be a staff member, designer, or volunteer.

Our Mission

Active Lincolnshire’s main aim is to increase participation in sport and physical activity across the county. By 2021, 20,021 more people will lead a more active lifestyle.

We want Lincolnshire to be one of the most healthy and active counties in the country and we want everyone to get involved. Many businesses and organisations across the county have already pledged to support our vision. Keeping our brand consistent throughout all of our promotional material is key in helping us to reach our goal.

Logo

The full colour version of the Active Lincolnshire logo is the primary mark and should always be used where possible.

The white-out version of the logo should only be chosen based on the background colour to achieve maximum visibility (this includes background images and solid colours).

The monotone logo should only be used on monotone documents and memos.

The logo should not be altered in anyway.

It is important that the logo remains consistent to help our audience easily identify the brand.

Logo misuse

Incorrect use of the Active Lincolnshire logo compromises its integrity and effectiveness. The examples of brand mark misuse act only as examples and are only a small sample of possible misuses of the mark.

Please note:

The logo must only be used withprior consent from Active Lincolnshire and only in accordance with these guidelines.

The logo ribbons should never be modified in any way.

You should never attempt to createyour own version of our logo.

Original artwork must always be used to reproduce the logo. The original files, in a variety of formats, can be obtained from the marketing team by emailing [email protected]

Exclusion zone and minimum dimensions

The logo should never be seen any smaller than 12mm tall with proportions constrained to avoid any stretching of the logo.

Additionally, a minimum exclusion area should be left around the logo equivalent to the height and width of the ‘A’ character from theword ‘Active’.

Logo over images

The logo can also be positioned over images as per the examples shown.

Which version of the logo is used should be determined by the clarity of the logo when positioned over the image.

As a rule of thumb, the full colour logo is generally OK to use over clear, light backgrounds with the white-out version being used over darker images and backgrounds.

Colour palette

Active Lincolnshire has a specific colour palette which is consistent throughout all of our communications and contains five primary colours alongside black and white.

The 5 main colours are taken from the ribbons within the Active Lincolnshire logo.

It is important to recognise that some colours within the primary palette will work better than others for different purposes. For example, the darker colours (e.g cyan, orange and black) should be favoured for larger block colours and backgrounds with yellow, green, red and white being used as accent colours.

Shades of the primary colour palette may also be used within reason.

Typography

Our primary typeface is Proxima Nova. This can be used across all collateral for headings right through to body copy.

Where Proxima Nova is unavailable, the typeface Montserrat should be used as an alternative. This is a close match to Proxima Nova and is readily available as a Google font and suitable for web use.

The preferred size for any printed body copy is 12pt. However, the type size may be smaller than 12pt in exceptional circumstances such as small print, corporate documents, terms & conditions and footnotes – designer’s discretion is always advised.

Graphic Elements - Fluid Lines

Throughout the Active Lincolnshire brand we use the fluid line elements shown to the right. These lines represent the movement that comes hand-in-hand with being active and they can adopt any of the primary colour palette.

Although they help to add another dimension, these design elements aren’t required, or necessary, on all collateral and are to be used sparingly.

You can see additional examples of these being used in the Brand Application section of these guidelines from page 13 onwards.

Graphic Elements - Logo Ribbons

The ribbons can be taken from the logo and be used in a minimal and uncluttered fashion.

When the ribbons are used as a graphical element they should be blown up / cropped so it is not clear they are separate from the logo type as per the example adjacent, below and as seen on the cover page of these guidelines.

The ribbons should always remain as they are presented within the logo and not seperated from each other. They can however be presented in solid white where necessary (as per the cover of these guidelines).

Photography

The photography used throughout the brand needs to cover a broad demographic; from people who take their fitness seriously to the people who are simply looking for a push to embark on a more active lifestyle. The photography that is used needs to be confident and positive but not arrogant or exclusive.

Our aim is to get as many people active as possible, so when selecting imagery this needs to be considered. Although an image can sometimes speak a thousand words, they aren’t always necessary and where an appropriate image isn’t available, it is better to use an alternative graphical element or leave it blank.

Imagery should incorporate all areas of being active and not just represent sport. People are an integral part to our brand, so they should be the focus of our public facing material.

The images to the right are just a small example of images that represent our ethos and vision.

Our School Sport challenge events

incorporate a variety of inclusive

activities and sports which are suitable

for every pupil to be included in as

an intra School Sport Challenge.

The School Sport challenge is a great

way for Primary schools to utilise some of

their School Sports Premium funding by

encouraging the whole school to get involved

and try new activities whilst also learning

about the School Games competition.

There are three sporting packages available;

Athletics, Ball sports and Striking. Up to

seven activities will be delivered in each

package, dependant on the space available

and numbers of pupils participating.

All activities and sports covered have been

created using the activities relating to the

School Games level 1 formats, along with

Primary versions of sporting movements

and concepts.
