Components - Resistors

● Different sizes and shapes and values.● They have three parameters, the resistance

in Ohms, tolerance percent and power rating in Watts

● Most common used are 1% 1/4W Metal Film with 220Ω, 330Ω, 470Ω, 1KΩ and 10KΩ.

● Buy in 100PCs packs or Buy 30 Values Kinds

Components - LEDs

● They come in different sizes and shapes.● Most common used are 3mm or 5mm single

color diffused or waterclear.● There are at least Red, Green, Yellow, Blue,

White, Pink, Amber, UV.● Buy in 100PCs packs or Buy Assorted pack

to get multiple colors

Page 7: Stuff harvesting - Gather your electronic components for hobbyist

Components - LEDs multicolor

● They come in different sizes and shapes.● Most common used are 5mm or 8mm

common anode or common cathode.● There are RGB-CA, RGB-CC, dual color 3-

Pin and 2-Pin 7 color autochange.● Buy in 100PCs or 20PCs packs

Page 8: Stuff harvesting - Gather your electronic components for hobbyist

Components - Headers

● There are two types Male and Female.● They can have 1 or more rows.● They can be Straight or right angled● They have the 2,54mm space between pins● They usually are 11mm long, male header

also come with 19mm lengths.● They typically come in a 40-Pin long format● Buy in 10PCs or 14PCs packs

Page 9: Stuff harvesting - Gather your electronic components for hobbyist

Components - Protoboards● There have different sizes and types● There are single and double sided● The Grid is about 0.1inch (2.54mm)● Typical thickness is about 1.6mm● The Hole diameter is Approx.1.0mm● The common sizes are 4x6cm, 2x8cm, 5x7cm 3x7cm● The double sided Fibre Glass are usually better● Prefer Fibre Glass over Prototype paper PCB● Buy in 10PCs or 20PCs packs

Components - Electrolytic Cap. ● There are measured in Farads and Volts● These capacitors have polarity● Normally used to store energy● They have typically values of 10, 15, 22, 33, 47, 68

multiples of nF● They come with 10V, 16V, 25V, 35V and up to 450V● For experiments you do not need to go up to 25V● Buy in 10PCs x 12 Kinds

Components - Ceramic Cap. ● There are measured in Farads● These capacitors don’t have polarity● Normally used for decoupling, smoothing and filtering ● They have a variety of values● Buy in 20PCs x 50 Values to get a good variety

Page 12: Stuff harvesting - Gather your electronic components for hobbyist

Components - Rectifier Diode ● it is used for reverse voltage protection● These Diodes have polarity● The 1N400x Series works up to 1A the 1N540x Series

works up to 3A● They support voltage ranges from 50V to 1000V● It drops the voltage by 0.7 v per diode● Buy in 10PCs x 8 Values to get a good variety

Page 13: Stuff harvesting - Gather your electronic components for hobbyist

Components - Variable Resistors● Its a three-terminal resistor with a sliding contact that

forms an adjustable voltage divider.● The code is the representation of the maximum

resistance - First 2 digits x 10third digit

● They have a variety of values (100, 101, 102, 103, 104, 105, 200, 201, 202, 203, 204, 205, 253, 254, 500, 501, 502, 503, 504, 505)

● Buy in 5PCs x 11 Values to get a good variety

Page 14: Stuff harvesting - Gather your electronic components for hobbyist

Components - Photoresistors● Also caller LDR - Light Dependant Resistor● Varies the resistance according to light● LDR commonly has a high resistance in the dark, and a

low resistance in the light.● They have a variety of values that specify the dark and

light resistance interval.● Buy in 10PCs or 20PCs, usually the code found is

GL55xx

Page 15: Stuff harvesting - Gather your electronic components for hobbyist

Components - IC Chips● These type of components reduce the complexity of

circuits● This is only two examples of interesting IC Chips:

○ 7805 - Linear Voltage Regulator to 5V○ 74HC595 - Allow 8 bit digital output using just 3 input

Pins● Buy in 10PCs or 20PCs

Page 16: Stuff harvesting - Gather your electronic components for hobbyist

Components - IC Sockets● These type of components allow to add and remove

Chips without soldering.● They exist in the same formats as the Chips. ● Tipically 6,8,14,16,18,20,24,28,40 Pin Sockets● Buy in 10PCs of each.● The most common used are the 16 Pin Sockets.
