1 Introduction

1.1 Studywiz Mobile

Studywiz Mobile is a Studywiz interface designed for use on mobile devices. It allows teachers, students and parents to access Studywiz from a mobile device, with an easy to use streamlined interface.

Studywiz Mobile enables Students to take tests, send and receive Studywiz messages, check their calendars and even participate in class discussions. Parents can keep up to date with their children’s school life by accessing test results and viewing assignments any time, anywhere. Teachers can extend their innovative teaching practices to bring a broader range of curriculum resources to students.

1.2 The Studywiz Mobile Teacher’s Guide

This Teacher’s Guide is for Studywiz Mobile version 9.4.2.

It contains instructions for using all the features and activities available in Studywiz Mobile. Everything you need to know to get the most out of Studywiz Mobile is contained in this document.

Getting Started


2 Getting Started

2.1 Log In

1. Open a web browser on your mobile device.

2. In the Address field, type the URL for your Studywiz Mobile deployment.

Your Studywiz Mobile URL is your Studywiz URL with /mobile added to the end.

Your school’s Studywiz Mobile splash page appears.

Bookmark your Studywiz Mobile splash page to make it easy to access in the future.

3. Tap iPhone. The Studywiz Mobile Login page appears.

4. In the Username field, type your Studywiz user name.



5. In the Password field, type your Studywiz password.

6. Tap the Log In button. Your Studywiz mobile home page appears.

The Studywiz Mobile home page displays four tabs with which you can access all the features of Studywiz Mobile.

2.2 Log Out

1. Scroll to the bottom of the Studywiz Mobile page you are viewing.

2. Tap the Log Out button. The ‘Are you sure you want to log out?’ dialog box appears.

3. Tap the OK button. You are now logged out of Studywiz Mobile. The login page appears.

2.3 Navigation

Navigate through Studywiz Mobile using the four Studywiz Mobile tabs at the top of the page. These tabs appear on every Studywiz Mobile page.

The Studywiz Mobile tabs provide access to the four main sections of Studywiz Mobile:

Activities Tap this tab to view all your classes and groups and their folders and activities. For more information refer to the Activities section of this document.

Inbox Tap this tab to open your Studywiz Mobile Messages page. From the Messages page you can view, compose, reply to, send and delete messages. For more information refer to the Messaging section of this document.

Contacts Tap this tab to view a list of your Studywiz contacts. For more information refer to the Contacts section of this document.

eLocker Tap this tab to view your Studywiz eLocker. For more information refer to the eLocker section of this document.

2.3.1 Open a Class Folder

1. Tap the Activities tab. A list of your classes and groups appears.

2. Tap the class or group that contains the folder you want to open. The class folders appear.



3. Tab the folder that you want to open. The contents of the folder appear.

2.3.2 Open a Team Folder


2. Tap the class or group that contains the team folder you want to open. The class or group folders appear.

3. Tap Team Folders. A list of your team folders for the class or group appear.

4. Tap the team folder that you want to open. The contents of the team folder appear.



2.3.3 Open an Individual Folder


2. Tap the class or group that contains the individual folder you want to open. The class or group folders appear.

3. Tap Individual Folders. A list of your individual folders for the class or group appears.

4. Tap the individual folder that you want to open. The contents of the individual folder appear.



3 Activities

You can view and contribute to a number of Studywiz activities through the Studywiz Mobile interface. Like standard Studywiz, activities appear in your class and group folders.

The following Studywiz activities are available in Studywiz Mobile:

• Assignment

• Calendar

• Chat Room

• Discussion

• eBulletin

• Gallery

• Group Writing

• Multi-Media

• Resource

• RSS Feed

• Test

• Vote

3.1 Assignment

Using Studywiz mobile you can publish a student’s assignment.

3.1.1 Open an Assignment


Activities


2. Tap the class or group that contains the Assignment you want to open. The class or group folders appear.

3. Tap the folder that contains the Assignment. The contents of the folder appear.

4. Tap the title of the Assignment you want to open. The Assignment opens.



3.1.1.1 View an Assignment File

You can only view files that are supported by your mobile device.

1. Tap the file link. The file opens.

3.1.2 View a Student’s Assignment

1. Open the Assignment by following the Open an Assignment procedure.

2. In either the Published Work or Unpublished Work sections, tap the Assignment that you want to view. The student’s Assignment response appears.



3.2 Calendar

Follow this procedure to view Calendar events.


2. Tap the class that contains the Calendar you want to open. The class folders appear.

3. Tap the class folder that contains the Calendar. The contents of the folder appear.

4. Tap the Calendar. The Calendar opens.

Activities


5. Select the events you want to view:

• If you want to view all the calendar events for the day, tap Today.

• If you want to view all the calendar events for the week, tap This Week.

• If you want to view all the calendar events for the month, tap This Month.

• If you want to view all the calendar events, tap All Events.

The events are listed.

a. To view the details of an event, tap the event. The event page appears.



3.3 Chat Room

Follow this procedure to participate in a Chat Room.


2. Tap the class that contains the Chat Room you want to open. The class folders appear.

3. Tap the class folder that contains the Chat Room. The contents of the folder appear.

4. Tap the Chat Room activity that you want to view. The Chat Room opens.

Activities


To view the users who are currently logged in to the Chat session, tap the Users Online link. If other users join the Chat, their names will also appear in the Users Online panel.

To return to the main Chat Room page, tap the Back button.

5. Tap the Please Type Here field and type your message.

6. Tap the Send button. Your Chat message is sent.

As other users contribute to the Chat, their messages appear in the upper Chat Room field.



3.4 Gallery

Through the mobile interface you can view Gallery items, add tags, rate items and make comments.

3.4.1 Open a Gallery Item


2. Tap the class that contains the Gallery you want to open. The class folders appear.

3. Tap the class folder that contains the Gallery. The contents of the folder appear.

4. Tap the Gallery that you want to view. The Gallery opens.

5. Tap the gallery item that you want to view. The item page opens.



3.4.2 Add a Gallery Item

If the gallery is locked, you may not be able to add items to the gallery.


2. Tap the class that contains the Gallery you want to open. The class folders appear.

3. Tap the class folder that contains the Gallery. The contents of the folder appear.

4. Tap the Gallery that you want to view. The Gallery opens.

5. Tap the Add Item button. Your eLocker opens.

6. Navigate to the eLocker item that you want to add to the gallery.

7. Tap the item. The item details appear.



8. Tap the Select button. The item is added to the gallery and the gallery reappears.

3.4.3 Rate a Gallery Item

1. Open the Gallery item by following the Open a Gallery Item procedure.

2. Scroll down to the Rating field.

3. Tap the number of stars that you want to give the item. A confirmation dialog box appears.

4. Tap the OK button. Your rating is saved.

3.4.4 Comment on a Gallery Item


2. Scroll down to the Comments field.



3. Below the Comments heading, tap the Add button. The Comment text field appears.

4. In the Comment field, type your comment.

5. Tap the Save Comment button. The Comment Added dialog box appears.

6. Tap the OK button. The comment is added.

3.4.5 Gallery Tags

3.4.5.1 Add Tags to a Gallery Item


2. Scroll down to the Tags field.

3. Below the Tags heading, tap the Add button. The Tag text field appears.

4. In the Tag field, type the tag you want to add.

5. Tap the Add Tag button. The tag is added to the item.

• To view a list of items with the same tag, tap the tag link. The items with the tag appear.



3.4.5.2 Edit or Delete a Tag


2. Scroll down to the Tags field.

3. Tap the View All button. A list of the tags appears.

4. Adjacent to the tag that you want to edit, tap the Edit button. The Tag text field appears.

5. If you want to edit the tag:

• Make your changes in the Tag text field.

• Tap the Apply button. The change is saved and the View Item page appears.

6. If you want to delete the tag:

• Tap the Delete button. The tag is deleted.

3.5 Group Writing

You can use Studywiz Mobile to view a student’s Group Writing response.

3.5.1 View a Group Writing Response


2. Tap the class that contains the Group Writing you want to open. The class folders appear.

3. Tap the Class folder that contains the Group Writing activity. The contents of the folder appear.



4. Tap the Group Writing activity that you want to view. The Group Writing activity opens.

5. From either the Unpublished Responses or the Published Responses section, tap the response that you want to view. The response opens.

3.6 Discussion

Follow this procedure to participate in a Discussion.


2. Tap the class that contains the Discussion you want to open. The class folders appear.

3. Tap the Class folder that contains the Discussion. The contents of the folder appear.

4. Tap the Discussion that you want to view. The Discussion opens.



5. Tap the Reply button. The Subject and Body fields appear.

6. In the Body field, type your reply.

7. Tap the Save button. Your reply is added to the discussion.

3.6.1 Edit a Reply

Follow this procedure to edit one of your discussion replies.


2. Tap the class that contains the Discussion you want to open. The class folders appear.

3. Tap the Class folder that contains the Discussion. The contents of the folder appear.



4. Tap the Discussion that you want to view. The Discussion opens.

5. Adjacent to the reply that you want to edit, tap the Edit button. The Subject and Body fields appear.

6. Tap the Body field and make your changes to the reply.

7. Tap the Save button. Your changes are saved.

3.7 eBulletin

Follow this procedure to view an eBulletin.


2. Tap the class that contains the eBulletin you want to open. The class folders appear.

3. Tap the Class folder that contains the eBulletin. The contents of the folder appear.



4. Tap the eBulletin that you want to view. The eBulletin opens.

The eBulletin displays the name of the person who created it, the creation date and the text of the eBulletin itself.

3.8 Resource

Follow this procedure to view a file in a Resource activity.



2. Tap the class that contains the Resource you want to open. The class folders appear.

3. Tap the Class folder that contains the Resource. The contents of the folder appear.

4. Tap the Resource title. The Resource opens.

5. To open the resource file, tap the link. The resource file appears.

How the file opens depends on the file type.

• Use the Back button on your browser to navigate back a page.

• Use the Studywiz Mobile tabs to continue working with Studywiz Mobile.



3.9 RSS Feed

Follow this procedure to view an RSS Feed.


2. Tap the class that contains the RSS Feed you want to open. The class folders appear.

3. Tap the Class folder that contains the RSS Feed. The contents of the folder appear.

4. Tap the RSS Feed title. The RSS Feed opens.

Activities


To see more information from the RSS feed, tap links in the RSS feed. Each link opens in its own browser window.

3.10 Multi-Media Activity

Multi-Media activities can include pictures, sound, video, links, and just about any other electronic material.

Some file types may not be compatible with your mobile device.


2. Tap the class that contains the Multi-Media you want to open. The class folders appear.



3. Tap the Class folder that contains the Multi-Media activity. The contents of the folder appear.

4. Tap the Multi-Media activity that you want to view. The Multi-Media opens.

5. To view the contents of the Multi-Media activity scroll down the page.

6. Tap the content that you want to view. The way you view the content depends on the type of content, for example, video and audio may open in a new browser.

3.11 Test

You can use Studywiz Mobile to complete tests and view the results of your tests.

3.11.1 Do a Test


2. Tap the class that contains the Test you want to open. The class folders appear.

3. Tap the class folder that contains the Test. The contents of the folder appear.

4. Tap the Test. The Test opens.



• If the Test is one that you can do only once, the Test details appear.

• If the Test allows you to attempt it more than once, tap the Start a New Session link. The Test details appear.

If you have an uncompleted test, tap the existing session and continue it by tapping the Continue Test button.

5. Scroll to the bottom of the page and tap the Begin Test button. The first question appears.

6. Answer the question.

If you want to skip the question, select the Skip this Question checkbox.

7. Tap the Submit Answer button. The next test question appears.

Once you have completed the last question, the test instruction page appears.

8. Scroll to the bottom of the page.

9. Tap the Finish Test button. The Test Results Summary page appears.

• To return to the test activity start page, tap the Return to Activity button.

• To return to the class folder, tap the Return to Folder button.



3.11.2 View Test Results


2. Tap the class that contains the Test you want to open. The class folders appear.

3. Tap the class folder that contains the Test. The contents of the folder appear.

4. Tap the Test. The Test opens.

Activities


• If the test can be attempted more than once, tap the Session that contains the results you want to view.

5. Scroll to the bottom of the Test page.

6. Tap the View Results button. The Test Results Summary page appears.



• To return to the test activity start page, tap the Return to Activity button.

• To return to the class folder, tap the Return to Folder button.

3.12 Vote

To participate in a vote, follow this procedure.


2. Tap the class that contains the Vote you want to open. The class folders appear.

3. Tap the class folder that contains the Vote. The contents of the folder appear.

Activities


4. Tap the Vote. The Vote opens.

5. Below the Select Response heading, select your vote. A confirmation dialog box appears.

6. Tap OK. Your vote is saved.



4 eLocker

Using Studywiz Mobile you can only view eLocker files that are supported by your mobile device. You cannot manage eLocker content.

If you use an iPod Touch™ or iPhone™, you can download the eLocker Application, which allows you to edit, add and delete eLocker items. Refer to the eLocker Application guide for instructions and information regarding the eLocker Application.

4.1 View an item in your eLocker


1. Tap the eLocker tab. Your eLocker opens.

2. Navigate to the eLocker item that you want to view.

3. Tap the item that you want to view. The item details appear.

4. Tap the View button. The item opens.



5 Messaging

Studywiz Mobile provides access to the Studywiz messaging system, which allows you to send messages to other Studywiz users.

5.1 Open a Message

1. Tap the Inbox tab. Your Messages page appears.

2. Tap the Inbox button. Your inbox opens.

3. Tap the message that you want to read. The message opens.

5.2 Compose and Send a Message


2. Tap the New Message button. The Send Message page appears.



Add Recipients

3. Tap the Add Recipient button. The Browse Contacts page appears.

a. Tap the name of the contact to whom you want to send the message. The Send Message page reappears.

• To add more recipients to the list, repeat step 3.

• To remove a Recipient, tap the Remove button.

Add an Attachment to the Message

4. Tap the Add Attachment from eLocker button. Your eLocker appears.

a. Navigate to the eLocker item that you want to add.

b. Tap the item that you want to add. The item details appear.

c. Tap the Select button. The Send Message page reappears and the item is listed in the Attachments field.



Compose and Send the Message

5. In the Subject field, type a Subject for the message.

6. In the Body field, type your message.

7. To save a copy of the message in your Sent folder, ensure that the Save Copy checkbox is selected.

8. Tap the Send Message button. The message is sent.

9. Use the Studywiz Mobile tabs to continue working with Studywiz.

Messaging


5.3 Reply to a Message



3. Tap the Message to which you want to reply. The message opens.

4. Tap the Reply button. The Send Message page appears.



5. In the Body field, type your reply.

6. To save a copy of the reply in your Sent folder, ensure that the Save Copy checkbox is selected.


8. Use the Studywiz Mobile tabs to continue working with Studywiz Mobile.

Messaging


5.4 Delete a Message

To delete a message, follow the procedures below to first move the message to the Trash folder and then delete it from the Trash folder.

5.4.1 Move a Message to the Trash Folder



3. Tap the Message that you want to delete. The message opens.



4. Tap the Delete Message button. The message is deleted.

5.4.2 Empty your Trash Folder


2. Tap the Trash button. A list of your deleted messages appears.

3. Tap the message that you want to remove from the Trash folder. The message opens.

Messaging


4. Scroll down and tap the Delete Message button. The message is deleted.

5.5 Sent Messages

The Sent Messages folder contains your saved sent messages.

Only messages for which you have selected the Save Copy checkbox are saved.

5.5.1 View a Sent Message


2. Tap the Sent button. A list of your sent messages appears.



3. Tap the message that you want to view. The message opens.

5.5.2 Delete a Sent Message


2. Tap the Sent button. A list of your sent messages appears.

3. Tap the message that you want to delete. The message opens.

4. Tap the Delete Message button. The Message is deleted.

5.6 Message Drafts

5.6.1 Open, Edit and Send a Message Draft


2. Scroll down and tap the Draft button. A list of your message drafts appears.

3. Tap the draft that you want to view. The draft opens.



4. Tap the Edit button. The Send Message fields appear.

5. Add any additional recipients or attachments.

6. Edit the Subject and the Body fields as required.

7. If you want the message to be saved in the Sent Folder, ensure that the Save Copy checkbox is selected.


Messaging


5.6.2 Delete a Message Draft


2. Scroll down and tap the Draft button. A list of your message drafts appears.

3. Tap the draft that you want to delete. The draft opens.

4. Tap the Delete Message button. The message draft is deleted.



6 Contacts

Studywiz users who are in your classes and groups are listed in your contacts section.

Follow this procedure to view the user details of one of your Studywiz contacts.

1. Tap the Contacts tab. The Browse Contacts page appears.

2. To refine the list of contacts displayed on the page, tap the appropriate alpha range at the top of the page.

3. Tap the name of the user whose details you want to view. The Contact Details page appears.

4. To view the user’s address, tap the View Map link. The user’s address opens in the Maps application.
