[email protected] [email protected] ABSTRACT In current scenario the process of laying foundation in clay soil is difficult and expensive, so that soil stabilization plays a major role in improving the bearing capacity of the soil. In this study groundnut shell ash, are combined with the soil as stabilizing agent in the soil and are also used as various percentages to improve the strength of locally available highly compressible clay soil. In this study an attempt is made to know the effect of groundnut shell ash in the clay soil, to examine the load bearing capacity of the soil when combined with groundnut shell ash, to analysis the clay soil and its effect with groundnut shell ash in different percentages such as 5%,10%,15%. From the optimum moisture content of the clay soil the groundnut shell ash is added in different percentages, to determine the soil bearing capacity with and without groundnut shell ash by plate load test. As groundnut is easily available material and an Eco friendly product, it is used in this study which is also economically cheap. Groundnut shell ash and cement increased the optimum moisture content. There was a slight decrease in the dry density and modulus of elasticity of soil INTRODUCTION The effect of stabilizer in improving the strength of the soil is evaluated through change in consistency limits, compaction characteristics, undrained cohesion and modulus of elasticity. The durability characteristics of stabilized soil were studied based on the improvement of undrained shear strength for various days of curing by increasing the percentage of cement[1- 6]. Stabilized soil showed satisfactory improvement in strength and consistent durability characters. The Groundnut Shell Ash contains some of the oxides found in pozzolanas and Portland cement and the Groundnut Shell Ash up to 30% replacement of ordinary Portland cement in concrete would be acceptable (B.A. Alabadan) International Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematics Volume 119 No. 12 2018, 9265-9277 ISSN: 1314-3395 (on-line version) url: http://www.ijpam.eu Special Issue ijpam.eu 9265
