Employers today are increasingly looking for more than knowledge and know-how. They look for enterprise skills that include critical thinking, an entrepreneurial mindset, data literacy, communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across workgroups.

QUT not only builds entrepreneurship and enterprise skills into our courses, we also offer many opportunities for students to practice and develop these skills.

Our Work Integrated Learning (WIL) program is one such opportunity that provides academic and practice-based professional learning within a work environment as part of your formal course of study. This could be internship projects or study tours in Australia and around the world. You will put theory into practice with work-integrated learning units and have great opportunities in industry-leading organisations and workplaces where you’ll build important networks and learn what your future career could really be like.

QUT also offers special programs, like OZ EX, where international students completed a week-long team project with a Brisbane-based industry partner. This provided an

invaluable Australian industry experience where participants were guided by an in-company mentor and developed their teamwork, critical thinking and communication skills.

Read about Anna’s OZ EX experience

QUT also offers Bootcamp events where students experience the power of teamwork and creative problem solving in a one or two-day event. Led by expert facilitators from QUT’s Creative Enterprise Australia (CEA), these bootcamps help students to develop the mindset and tools used by the world’s brightest and most successful innovators and entrepreneurs. Learning how to use critical thinking and collaboration to generate new ideas and innovative solutions in a dynamic, fast-paced bootcamp is a tremendous career experience.

Hear from our students

International student stories

ZOE ZHAN, ChinaBachelor of Nursing Completed Year 12 at Balmoral State High School

After exploring QUT on Open Day and QUT International High School Day, I was very impressed by QUT’s teaching and learning dynamic. By the end of year 12, I was sure that QUT would be the university for me.

In my current nursing degree, I enjoy and benefit from the practical skills I learn. Many of these skills prepare us to meet and exceed the expectations of the nursing industry, giving us the confidence to do our best at our placements.

SEOHYUN YOON, South KoreaBachelor of Engineering (Honours) Completed Year 12 at John Paul College

QUT has been a perfect place for me academically, socially and culturally. I’ve had various opportunities including working as a QUT ambassador and volunteering at QUT events which helped me make a lot of new friends and be active in everyday life.

I’m very happy that I choose QUT as I feel like I’m constantly developing my skills and knowledge and evolving my way of thinking, not only as a student, but also generally in personal growth.

KIRILL PLETNEV, RussiaBachelor of Business / Bachelor of Engineering Completed Year 12 at Saint Stephen’s College

One of the main reasons I decided to study at QUT is its worldwide network of partners with institutions and industries. QUT is passionate about connecting students and industry partners which helps to create strong networks leading to employment.

What we discuss during the classes are based on real-world examples, about real organisations and real problems. Connecting business interests and technological solutions is my passion and studying at QUT provides the best practical experiences to get there.

At QUT we pride ourselves on being real. So, when it comes to finding out what it’s like to study at university, we believe there’s no better way than to hear from our students!

A diverse group of students from different courses, year of study, and stages of life share

their experiences at university and in Brisbane.

We know you’ll enjoy their adventures and encourage you to follow, comment and ask questions. Don’t forget to subscribe so you don’t miss any of the action.

Check out the International Student Stories site.
