Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1982, Florence is noted for its culture, Renaissance art and architecture. Academic courses in the Webster Florence program are provided by our onsite partner institution, Kent State University. All majors are welcome to study in Florence. Students will have a wide selection of courses in various subject areas, along with all levels of Italian language. In past semesters, courses have been offered in, but not limited to, the following areas: architecture, art, biology, business, communication, history, Italian, political science and psychology. LIVE Palazzo Vettori is a prestigious and ancient building located in the heart of Florence, at the corner of Via Cavour and Via Alfani, just 400 m from Piazza del Duomo. Recently renovated and opened to students in 2016, the palace is a remarkable combination of classical architecture and modern amenities. All students stay in apartments throughout the heart of Florence, giving students the true experience of living as a local. Each apartment is shared between two to eight students. They come fully furnished with bed linens, a kitchen, TV and wireless Internet. Everything is within walking distance and local transportation systems are less than a five-minute walk away. DISCOVER Florence is the capital of Tuscany, a region known for its landscapes, traditions, and influence on culture. Tuscany welcomes many visitors throughout the year. Some in search of fine art; some to explore the extraordinary countryside; and others to enjoy the local wine and cuisine. The program in Florence is a comprehensive academic and cultural program. Students are organized in a cohort system based off of their course schedules. The cohort system is used to coordinate study tours that are designed to bring extra depth to a specific area of study. For example, past study tours have included: business students investigating the global financial center in Geneva and communication students visiting media establishments in Milan. In addition to the study tours, students will have many opportunities to get acquainted with Florence and the surrounding region. Open to all students, and included in the program fee, are numerous activities introducing Italian life and culture. The on-site Student Services team can help you make the most of being in Florence with information on the local area, activities and events across the region.
