As part of an agreement with Ecolife and The University of Pretoria, South Africa, SUNY Delhi has launched it’s first official study abroad program. Students participate in a Wildlife Management Program for three weeks and earn SUNY Delhi academic credit. The focus is hands-on experiences on Private Game Preserves, Animal Breeding and Rehabilitation Facilities, Non-Profit Organizations, and National Parks while experiencing the regions, culture, and society of South Africa. The Program The bush is your classroom for this 3 week program. What better way to get up close and personal with the abundant wildlife that South Africa has to offer. The program starts in Pretoria where students get to assist a local non-profit humane organization in providing veterinary and surgical services for the animals of the townships surrounding Johannesburg. From there, you hit the road and camp amongst the wildlife in multiple Private Game Preserves and National Parks. Days are spent at premier Wildlife Conservation Facilities as- sisting the animal caretakers and discussing issues of wildlife conservation with leaders in the field. Stu- dents camp and are responsible for sharing responsibili- ties of preparing food, cleaning, and organizing equip- ment. Wildlife Capture Training A five day course in Wildlife Capture with an expert in the field teaches the concepts and skills of darting, medical immobilization, and wildlife management. Students get hands-on participation in all aspects of real cases of wildlife capture. 2 Main St. 158 Farnsworth Hall 104 Delhi, NY 13753 Dr. Bret Meckel [email protected] (607) 746-4306 For additional information contact: Study Abroad in South Africa
