Nature of Task An exploration proposal should create a framework for an individual design process in which the student plans how their subject matter, ideas, aesthetics, materials and techniques will be explored and developed. The student’s exploration proposal needs to be developed on an individual basis and personal and creative responses should be encouraged throughout the preparation. The teacher and student should negotiate the contents of the exploration proposal and the art form/s in which the work will be undertaken to ensure the student is working within the range of art form/s and facilities the school is able to offer. It is expected that the exploration proposal will be of a substantial length that comprehensively addresses the scope of the task. Scope of Task The exploration proposal should include: · an explanation of the focus and subject matter to be developed · a discussion of the conceptual possibilities and an explanation of the ideas to be explored · a description of the art form/s to be explored · a discussion of the sources of inspiration to be investigated · an explanation of the aesthetic qualities to be explored · an explanation of the materials to be explored · an explanation of the techniques to be developed · a plan for how the exploration proposal will be implemented. Getting Started!!
Respond to the following areas with reference to visual information: !!1. Discussion of focus and subject matter to be explored. Refer to the topic, theme, concept and content. Include a digital mind map or brainstorm here. !2. Discussion of the conceptual possibilities and ideas. Refer to narrative structure behind the idea for the work and discuss why this is important for you and what it will communicate through exhibition to an audience. How will you treat this concept differently to all other students working with this idea? !3. Description of the art form to be explored. How are you planning to use the art form to make your work? !4. Discuss sources of inspiration and how these relate to what you consider great art to be? Who inspires you? What makes their work so inspiring? How will you integrate this inspiration into your own work? !5. Discuss how you will use the aesthetic qualities of the elements and principles of art, signs and symbols in your work. Don’t discuss every element, principle, sign or symbol – only the important and significant ones. !6. What materials and techniques will you explore? Why have these been selected? Have you used these materials and techniques before? What has been successful for you in the past and how will this success help your work in this year? !!!
