Studio Absolute helps develop these connec-

With the web now being the norm for
communicating your visual brand; some
would say print is losing relevance. We
disagree. Having a tangible and physical piece
that tells your company’s story is extremely
powerful. We love the �ne details and
creativity found in crafting a beautiful
print piece. Typography shines, texture
rules and most importantly the
messaging is there to stay as a consistent
reminder of the brand idea your
company serves and provides.

textiles and methods that create a lasting and

So how does an ex chain puller, ranch hand,
Hawaiian tour guide, forestry technician, log
home builder, butcher and electrician end up in a
design career? Your guess is as good as his…it
would have been a lot easier to have known what
he yearned to do, went to college and landed a
design job. Instead, he took the winding adventure
of life that accidentally landed in design.
Russ’ entry to the design world began at a small
local newspaper in his hometown where on his
�rst day, he struggled to coax a CD from a Mac
and had to teach himself QuarkXpress in two
weeks (the equivalent of learning a foreign
language in the same time frame). In the process,
he realized, “Hey, maybe I have an aptitude for
this?” Yes, organize things, set type, use the grid,
dork out on the details... It was here that his
passion for design began to unfold.
Russ grew up constantly sketching inventions. He was
always curious about photography, signage, industrial
design, dimension, order…yes things neatly placed. The
Reagan administration probably didn’t know what hit
them when Russ’ sketch arrived for the new ship
the government didn’t know they needed.
18 years after fumbling with the Mac CD drive
and sending sketches to the President, Russ’
portfolio includes work recognized in the Oregon
Addy’s and the books, Logolounge and Visual
Marketing. He credits his strength in typography
to several years as design director for a branding
�rm where he had the opportunity to work on
projects for Krusteaz, Ghirardelli and Thomas
Nelson Publishers. This emphasis on strong
typography helps drive the passion of our studio.
While logo design remains the most challenging
item on his schedule every week, helping a
company realize the essence of their brand
through a simple and beautiful mark is also the
most gratifying.
CHERYL MCINTOSHPrincipal + Strategy Director
Cheryl is an entrepreneur, artist, copywriter and
professional chef-in-training at the COCC
Cascade Culinary Institute. At Studio Absolute,
she works hand in hand with our clients to
communicate the essence of their company’s
brand while cooking up ideas on how they can
best engage with their target market.
Her passion for e�cient systems, good
communication, and social justice began at a
young age when she too reached out to Ronald
Reagan in a plea for world peace. This was of
course tempered with a dual plea of scheduling
future addresses to the nation outside of prime
time TV which interrupted the regularly
scheduled shows–Fraggle Rock and Alf.
Cheryl’s career in marketing evolved over the years
while working and volunteering in resource
development for several local non-pro�ts. She entered
the design cosmos when she became the Studio
Manager for FaceOut Studio–a nationally recognized
�rm specializing in book design. Here she served as the
liaison between the design team and major book
publishers to ensure that projects were delivered
on time and according to client direction.
Cheryl’s involvement with the Advertising
Federation of Central Oregon, Opportunity
Knocks and COCC keeps her engaged with the
community and in tune with local and national
trends in branding and advertising.
