The Distribution Dispatch Center is responsible for safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the electric distribution system. Our dispatchers handle outages for all of the electric retail and commercial customers in the SCE&G service territory; they manage storm response and system maintenance for SCE&G crews and contract crews; are responsible for keeping a variety of computer programs up-to-date with real-time information to include: the Outage Management System (OMS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, Geographic Information System (GIS), Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Work Management System (WMS), and the callout communicator; and are responsible for following the SCE&G switching and tagging procedures, studying and approving switching plans, modeling system configuration changes, and managing planned and unplanned outages. The student will perform a variety of tasks related to the daily operation of the electric distribution system which may include assisting the dispatchers during storm response as well as their daily work. The student may be introduced to a variety of computer programs mentioned above. This co-op opportunity will give the student a broad, in-depth understanding of the daily operation of the electric distribution system and will expose the student to switching and tagging procedures, system configuration changes and planned and unplanned outages. To meet operational needs, selected students must be available and committed to working a flexible 24/7 shift schedule as well as overtime and storm callout as business needs require.
