Slide 2 Students Guide to the Internet A James Cabaral Production Block 7, Tech 9, November 5 Slide 3 Slide 4 Internet browsing is quite the risky thing! The act of internet browsing is very tricky, especially in the sense of staying safe. Not knowing what you are on (The Internet) can easily lead to the death of your browsing. There are many sneaky scams, viruses and other online hazards that can disrupt the way you normally operate while using the Internet. If youre unaware of these hazards or even how to avoid them, then Internet usage is not recommended at all. Stay safe on the Internet, or else it will bite you back! Slide 5 Slide 6 Scams and viruses are finding craftier and sneakier ways to give you the short end of the stick nowadays. Its better to not trust anything rather than falling for something you THOUGHT was fine. Slide 7 Learn about any and all potential dangers that are present on the Internet. The more informed you are, the safer you can be while surfing the web. The more ya know, the better! Slide 8 Many unreliable sites and sources have easy telltale signs that you can anticipate to avoid any possible online hazards. These can include deliberate requests for any private info, excessive use of advertisements and LOTS of other things that official/professional sites wouldnt do. Slide 9 In the case of full computer lockdowns or complete computer shutdown, backing up any important files will prevent you from losing all of your work. Having extra files on a flash drive or some other form of file storage comes in handy when all of a sudden your stuff needs to be moved out. In the case of full computer lockdowns or complete computer shutdown, backing up any important files will prevent you from losing all of your work. Having extra files on a flash drive or some other form of file storage comes in handy when all of a sudden your stuff needs to be moved out. Slide 10 Youre better safe than sorry in the cruel world that is the Internet. Whether its wanting to do risky file shares, to plagiarize or everything in between, its better not than to do. No matter how tempting it is or how desperate you are, if you know thats its illegal, just dont do it! Think! Slide 11 Slide 12 What Are Ergonomics? Ergonomics are the study or the form of how people work in certain environments. Example 1: A comparison of ergonomics could be seeing how efficient a person could work sitting down as opposed to standing up. Example 2: A person working in comfortable seating in an open area versus a person working on a rock in a cramped space. Slide 13 Does this face looks like it cares?! Well, it should. Ergonomics can easily affect the productivity and efficiency of ones work time. If youre stressing over how uncomfortable you are, or you find yourself constantly adjusting your posture to suit how you want to work, then youve wasted time right there. Also, its much easier to work when its more comfortable because thats the natural way that the body operates. When youre typing at an appropriate arm length with comfortable seating at an appropriate height, its much easier to work rather than scrunched up in a ball typing a couple words a minute. As an employee, its your right to make sure your work is done! Ergonomics not only applies to employees, but also with employers. It is a boss responsibility to provide the necessary materials, equipment and proper workspaces to ensure the safety and productivity of their employees. As an employer, its their responsibility to make sure their workers work gets done! Slide 14 Consequences can vary from small to large when it comes to improper ergonomics. The less hefty issues, although short-term, can be quite a hassle to work with. These can be things like constant adjustments for comfortability, slower working due to awkward body positions and many other inconveniences that relate to not being able to get a proper session of work done. The more severe cases of less ergonomic work spaces provide a more long- term effect on a person. These cases can cause body injuries such as a sore back, cramped muscles, stiff joints and other physical strains. Thats gotta hurt! Slide 15 Rigid and uncomfortable Too short Too small Uneven Padded Adjustable height Back rest Easy to move Large enough size; accommodates all sizes I compared these two products with the ideas of comfortability, accessibility and conventions in mind. Slide 16 Slide 17 Definition: Intellectual property is what the mind can think of or do and the ownership of it. Slide 18 As of late, Canada has been following the U.S. in attempts of tracking and persecuting users who illegally download copyright content (File Sharing Lawsuit). So far, over 1000 IP addresses have been retrieved by Canipre, an anti-piracy firm (File Sharing Lawsuit). So yes, file sharing is illegal under Canadian law. Dont Do It Slide 19 Personally, I think that file sharing should not be tolerated, despite corporations and companies ripping off customers that way. I think this because its mainly for the artists. If you were to find a song that you really enjoyed, it would be fair for you to give credit to the artist and support them financially. That same idea would work for actors and actresses in film. If nobody paid for the music of the artist or the film of the actor, it would be very difficult for them to get onto their feet as professional performers. Even if that performer was already famous enough, it would be hard to maintain that quality of work with a little budget. All in all, its more fair for the artist to keep going rather than you not wanting to pay for something. Slide 20 Some Good Sites for Yall Slide 21 http://www.checkmymark.com Check My Mark is a great, teacher approved site for being notified on how well you are doing in class. It is fast, efficient and can be accessed easily by a student, teacher or even a parent. This site allows teachers to update marks easily and also lets the student check at school or at home. Check My Mark is an overall easy site for, well marks! Slide 22 https://owl.english.purdue.edu The Purdue Online Writing Lab is very useful for all of your writing and literary needs. The most important content that I use the most is the MLA Formatting and Styling Guide, which gives you tips on how to cite certain things and what to do with them. The O.W.L. site is quite handy for your literary and technical needs. Slide 23 http://www.atss.ca The ATSS site is helpful for me as a student of ATSS and to my peers. It is the hub for any news, announcements, special dates and teacher sites for the school. You can find nearly everything you need appertaining to ATSS on this site, which is a safe and reliable source if you need to know anything about/from ATSS. Slide 24 http://mrscousaratss.wikispaces.com One of the teacher sites provided by the ATSS site is Mrs. Cousars wiki. This is another hub for any homework, due dates, assignment guidelines and links to other important sites that have to do with work assigned from Mrs. Cousars room. This site also links to other good sites like Check My Mark and the Purdue Online Writing Lab. This is an important site for anything having to do with Mrs. Cousars work (such as this presentation). Slide 25 http://dictionary.com The online dictionary helps with any vocabulary needs. It can define, translate and find synonyms for the over 1,000,000 words in the English Language. Its helpful for when you want to define something for homework or would like to better understand text. The Online Dictionary is ideal for any vocabulary related situations.
