Late work/Due DatesMiddle school is an important time in a student’s educational career. This is an importanttransition time from elementary school to secondary school, and a time when children learn theimportance of responsibility. It is the student’s full responsibility to know due dates and turn inwork on time. Below is our policy on due dates and grading for late work.

Work is due on the date the teacher assigns. In order to receive full credit, work must beturned in on or before that date. If there are extenuating circumstances, please speak withyour teacher. However, it is up to the teacher’s discretion to decide if full credit will be granted.

Late Work Policy: Assignments are considered late at midnight the following day afterassigned. Once an assignment is “late”:

● 1 Day Late: 15% Reduction in grade - maximum score of 85%● 2 Days Late: 30% Reduction in grade - maximum score of 70%● After one week late, the assignment is considered missing and results in a zero.

Interim Reports & Report CardsINTERIM REPORTS are one of the instruments used to report possible or pending failure ofstudents to parents and guardians. Unsatisfactory work will be reported to the student andparent at the earliest possible time, as a failing grade cannot be recorded at the end of anine-week grading period if there has been no parental contact. Teachers are encouraged to

10

Page 12: Student Handbook 2021 - 2022 - AWS

report the progress of all students during the fifth week of the grading period; however, interimreports are required for all students whose grades would be a “D” or “F” during the fifth weekof the grading period. Parents are strongly encouraged to monitor E-school on a weekly basis.

HOW ARE NINE-WEEK GRADES DETERMINED? Accumulated points during a nine-week gradingperiod will be converted to a percentage of points possible. The percentage will then beconverted to a letter grade based on the state grading scale.

Example: 950 points possible780 points earned780 divided by 950 = 82% B

Yearly Grade: The yearly grade will be the percentage average of the four grades from thenine-week grading periods.

Example:1st nine weeks 2nd nine weeks 3rd nine weeks 4th nine weeks79% 88% 96% 98% Total = 361%

Yearly Grade: 361% divided by 4 = 90% A

REPORT CARDS will be given after each nine-week grading period. These report cards willreflect the grades received, citizenship, and number of absences.
