Advantages (Outcomes):
Book fair is a gathering with a display of various kinds of books for book lovers. It
provides a feast of books that motivate a student. The presence of variety of books creates a
fascination with books and interest in reading. The presence of wide array of subjects such as
poems, books on History, Geography, Culture, Novels and Stories among others, diversifies a
student’s reading and learning. Thus it makes them open and accommodating to different
subjects and classes. Students come to know about various authors. For student aspiring to be
authors in the future, exhibition provides a decent opportunity for motivation towards their
dream. They in still love for reading that last forever. Books are an integral part of an
individual as they provide company, accentuate one’s interest and are a good friend. Books
are insight into life, advice, entertainment and other topics in the world. The idea of
exhibition is to make student engage in a continuous reading. They get more information and
ideas which motivates thinking and creates an environment of understanding. It also increases
the imagination of students.
2. MOVIE FEST:
Movies are mostly seen as tools for entertainment purposes. Do they have any
educational benefits in them the total rapture is a good movie that explains about the rapture?
Now to answer the question “can movies offer education benefit?”. Yes, they are of immense
value for the students to learn the things easily.
In Order to make teaching more lively and enjoyable, our institution has adopted the
practice of showing movies (MOVIE FEST). Students are shown movies, short films and
Documentaries related to topics in their syllabus or having moral value or educational value.
Benefits of watching movies (outcomes)
1. Increasing memory performance
One of the ways of achieving this is by repetition. It may be boring to repeat a
lesson on a topic. However, when the same lesson like history is put in the form of a
movie, the students can easily repeat the movie without getting bored. So, when
exams come, the students can easily relate what they saw to the questions being asked
and hence get the answers right. Even Documentaries on framing of constitution,
Parliaments of various countries, Personalities etc give them an opportunity to watch
them lively which lasts for a long time in their memory.
Students watching the Historic Movie SANGOLLI RAYANNA (shown on
12.08.2017)
2. Deepens understanding
Using a single method of teaching may not make the students get a deeper
understanding of the lesson. Movies can be combined with other methods forming
multiple teaching modalities. Movies may make a certain point easy to understand
since they tend to engage all the senses which deepen one’s understanding.
Students watching a Documentary on CONSTITUTION OF INDIA (shown
on 24.01.2018)
3. Dual coding
This occurs when the students read a book or taught in class then they watch a
movie relating to what they have been taught. This is what dual coding is all about. It
brings better and easier understanding of the lessons being taught. This, in turn, makes
them perform better.
Students of B.Com watching the movie “ MILERAPA” Which is
prescribed in the Kannada Syllabus (shown on 04.09.2018)
4. Adds fun to learning
All work with no play makes jack a dull boy. Similarly, when the lessons lack
fun, they tend not to be understood by the students. Adding movies to the class work
makes the students entertained which eventually increase their motivation to study
that subject. It also increases their interest in the subject. For them to perform better
on that subject, they need to be interested in it.
Students watching the movie TAARE ZAMEEN PAR(shown on
21.02.2019)
4. Creates awareness
Some movies are made to raise awareness on the social issues affecting the
society as a whole. Some of the issues being addressed include economic, social and
even cultural. People need to know and appreciate such values. They also get to know
the importance and appreciate what people are going through or what they went
through to get to where they are now. Movies play a major role in the delivery of
these messages to people.
Students watching the movie BETTADA JEEVA (shown on 08.10.2019)
5. Inspiration
Inspiration makes students motivated. They will always strive to be better
irrespective of their current situations. Movies help people get inspired to be
somewhere in life. The students get to see how people can be transformed into heroes
and what they did to be where they are. It makes the students look at life from a very
different perspective knowing that everything is possible. A regular person can make
a change and be recognized by the whole world.
Students watching the speech of A P J ABDUL KALAM (shown on 24.01.2020)
The Institution in this way has tried to use movies as a tool to bridge the relationship
between the textbook and the students.
3. WALL MAGAZINE:
This institution has adopted Wall Magazine as one of the Best Practices as it provides
an opportunity to students to post their articles, poems, drawings and other such compositions
to share with each other. They are a medium within the institution to express their creativity.
It also acts as a medium to increase interaction between students. Students can share with
their fellow students any information or interesting things which they feel as important. At
our institution student’s imagination and creativity is nurtured and given wings to fly high.
They create beautiful and meaningful pieces of art to express their emotions which may be in
the form of articles, pictures, paintings and useful perspective about subjects.
