STRIKING A BALANCE BETWEEN THE MATHEMATICAL CONTENT
AND PRACTICE STANDARDS

ICE BREAKER
Integer Wars In groups of 2, take 5 cards each from the pack. Number cards are valued as stated. Aces are 1, picture cards are 10. No
Jokers. At the same time, turn your top card over, add the values of the cards
together. First player to correctly state sum wins cards. End game when one player has all cards.
Variations Black cards are positive numbers, red cards are negative numbers. Try multiplying or subtracting using the original game rules or the colour
variation. Try adding more people to the game.
