Workshop guidance cont: Content

Use the NOS elements to define some of your content! Be prepared to justify your choice Overview of your strategy Identify at least one inclusive theme or business

development focus Why is your theme important to the future of your

Sport/Business? Have you spoken to industry professionals about your ideas

or can you demonstrate literature support? i.e. I don’t just want to see your ideas I need to see you’ve tested them…do they work…what do industry professionals think of them etc.

Page 25: Strategic Management Practice in Community Sport Lecture 3 070314

Workshop guidance cont:

Active engagement throughout the conference

Asking constructive questions Participating in tasks and group discussions Using the information for future employment and

asking questions of the keynote speakers Amending your workshop with information gleaned

from others

Page 26: Strategic Management Practice in Community Sport Lecture 3 070314

THE WORKSHOP:

At the start…Welcome Identify yourself (introductions and focus area’s) What is the theme and purpose of your

presentation Briefly outline your chosen strategy and what is

to come What will be expected of the audience?

Page 27: Strategic Management Practice in Community Sport Lecture 3 070314

Task: You have 5 minutes to think about something you have

contributed to your group so far? Identify your academic framework/management tools…do

you plan on using more than 1? Explain why you have selected this What is your main content element within your

presentation? What requirements do you have? Then I’ll select a couple of people at random and we’ll hear

what they have to say! It could be anything from your visit, your management

framework/ tool, your input on Face book, your NOS discussion or some kind of resource that you’ve found?

Page 28: Strategic Management Practice in Community Sport Lecture 3 070314

Structure: Have a beginning Introduction, outcome related, ‘real world engagement’ and

outline the session Develop a Middle Main focus related to you’re strategy, supported by ‘NOS’

elements and make it task orientated Evidence academic tools, literature and vocational material Include activities Invite guests Plan a conclusion Leave a lasting impression and stimulate a thought process…

Within the next 2 weeks:

Overview of each groups descriptor Have you started yours? Do you need help? Are you just looking for a dynamic section? How are you delivering your main content? What about variety? Have you applied detail? Have you applied ‘real world’ theory,

literature, NOS and academic tools

Page 42: Strategic Management Practice in Community Sport Lecture 3 070314

Writing the strategy Mission aims objectives actions

Increasing level of detail to operationalise your mission

Actions include responsible parties, timescales, resources

Need to balance detail with readability/ utility

Could someone else pick up the document and implement it?
